Joining 3gpp Files Without Recompression!?

Post by tom dugan »

Sorry, I have no clue where to post this so I will cross post to Video ToolBox™ 2 - Home edition for Mobile Phones. Please transfer these posts to the right thread or email me!

PROBLEM: I am trying to find a program that will allow me to append many short 3gpp clips together and save them back to a master 3gpp file as a passthrough (without recompression). This would be an easy job in virtualdub but the program does not support 3gpp. Any clue how I can do this? Understand this is NOT a conversion just a splice. I start with many 3gpp wrappers and wind up with one. The specs are H.263-85Kbs and AMR-12.2Kbs.

CATCH 22: I can't ask tech support what program or utility to use because I am not a registered user because I don't know what program to use! Thanks for your help - I am pulling my hair out over this one! BTW - I looked at Quicktime Pro, but it would strip the 3GPP wrapper and use MOV so that is a dead end.

Since nobody took a shot at this I will answer my own question based on trying the demos. The answer is no. Toolbox mobile does have the 3gpp codec but can't really use them to produce a 3gpp system file let alone append 3gpp clips. I installed VideoStudio and couldn't even get the 3gpp patch to work. HA! after full install and reboot, the patch error run from the VS folder is "can't find VisualStudio - Please install." So I started the program and then the patch error was "VisualStudio is running in the background - Please close program." Ya got to love it!

If a someone knows of a solution, please post - although it doesn't look like it will be a Ulead product...

You can always use Task Manager to kill VSTUDIO.EXE (or reboot). ..

THoff, thanks I did that but the patch then goes back to the original error - can't find VS! Not to worry - it looks like what I need can't be done in either of these programs. I was REALLY hoping an engineer from the company might read this and come up with a suggestion on how to append 3gpp files on a pass-through...

Ulead does not answer questions here, it says so at the top of the page. However, I'm certain that they monitor the board to get feedback and bug reports.

Did you try to install the 3GPP addon with a trial version of UVS, or the full product?

Tom,
I'm pretty sure Apple's QuickTime Pro will do the job you want. I don't know if they allow a free demo download, but the program is about $30 US.

Good luck & have a happy & healthy New Year
