Using VS 9 to create an 82 minute project I'm trying to export it as an AVI file. At the end of the rendering process I get the message "insufficient space". I've tried twice, once on C drive which shows 340GB unused and also on an external drive that shows 196GB unused.
I've noticed that on the timeline the clips total 1hr 22min but there is then a long empty portion that goes to 3hr 10min. Is this the cause of the problem and if so how do I fix it?
340GB "insufficient space" for an 82 minute project.

Re: 340GB "insufficient space" for an 82 minute project.
What kind of AVI file are you trying to create? There are over 800 video formats which use the .avi extension, which is only a wrapper. Pure, uncompressed .avi runs at about 65 GB per hour of video. So even if the extra unused space of over 3 hours were somehow included in the render, then that would still not amount to 340 GB. Mind you, during the conversion process, a lot of temporary space is required, and usually this is around about the same space -- or more -- as the original project length, and that could account for the 'insufficient space' message.
But we won't really know until we know what format you are trying to create within the .avi wrapper...

Re: 340GB "insufficient space" for an 82 minute project.
I used the default "Same as project "settings. The project properties are
PAL (25 fps)
Microsoft AVI files
24 Bits, 720 x 576, 4:3, 25 fps
Lower Field First
DV Video Encoder -- type 2
PCM, 48.000 kHz, 16 Bit, Stereo.
Is this the information that you need?

Hi
First lets explore the 3hr 10min issue
Your project duration you say is 1hr22mins.
Click the word “project” adjacent to the play button. (now in project playback mode)
Five buttons to the right is the End button, click this and your curser will take you to the end of the project. The last clip.
Are there any unwanted clips in any of the timelines ?
Your video properties are standard Dv-Avi and should produce a file at 13 Gb per hour.
However I would have expected DV Video Encoder -- type 1

The "insufficient space" message probably doesn't relate to the hard drive, it is more likely a buffer in RAM that is running out of space.

Thanks both,
Reloading the project to follow Trevor's suggestion brought up a normal timeline and created a 1hr 22m AVI file.
Hopefully that's the end of the problem.
