CREATING A DISC
Hi
I have been trying to create a disc, after editing some of my movie footage from my camcorder.
I have followed all the procedures on the 'Share' step. Every thing seems to be working fine, but, when the disc is ejected, it is appears to be 'Blank', as when I try to play it in either of my drives, a dropdown box says 'Application Not Found'
any idea's as to why it is not burning on to the DVD+RW disc?

Welcome to the forums!
Unfortunately, however, we are not mind readers. We have no idea what kind of video your are using (i.e. its format), or what editing you did to it. We don't even know which version of Video Studio you are using. There is a sticky post at the top of this forum labelled indicatively enough "PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE POSTING": http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php?p=41454#p41454 Please have a look at it and get back with the information it outlines and hopefully someone will be able to help.
Can you also confirm that you are just trying to burn a standard definition DVD as opposed to an AVCHD hybrid high definition disc which also burns to a DVD as opposed to a Blu-Ray disc.

Re: CREATING A DISC
Hi Ken
Sorry about the lack of information.
The downloaded video, is from a Panasonic HDC - HS9 camcorder
I am using video Studio PROx4
I have edited in the normal way, using 'Multitrim', and added about 3 x Transitions.
The disc that I am using, is a std DVD+RW.
As I said, Everything seemed to be going ok, it even said that 'It had been completed successfully', but when I go to Play back the DVD, it appears to be blank.

And what were the properties of the video file you created in the 'Create Video File' option and then subsequently burned to disc.

Re: CREATING A DISC
Ok. So now we know at least you are using AVCHD video to start with. But if you are trying to create a standard definition DVD, the that AVCHD high definition mpeg-4 has to be down-converted to standard definition and DVD compatible mpeg-2. Can we assume you did not do this before going to Share > Create Disc > DVD?
We also still have no idea of your computer capabilities. AVCHD is the most demanding format currently on the consumer market and you need a very powerful computer for it to be able to process and play AVCHD properly. So what about telling us your computer specifications...? That's the main reason we ask people to fill these details in their profile when they register...

And that should be part of the approval process, yet new users are continually approved without this (important and useful) information. That's the main reason we ask people to fill these details in their profile when they register...

Hi yertizagain,
This was suggested by Ken, and re-iterated by Jeff, Please go to The Profile Tab of your User Control Panel, and complete the information about your system. This might be the very reason why you're having problems. At this point we don't know, and can only speculate.

Re: CREATING A DISC
Hi Ken
You are right to assume that I did not convert to standard definition and DVD compatible mpeg-2, before going to share >Create Disc >DVD. In fact, after I had completed my editing, I went straight to Step3-SHARE > Create disc > AVCHD.
I did leave my computer details when registering, but only some of the details are being shown.
Anyway, here are the Details:
Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium
SYSTEM DRIVE: C 64Bit
PROCESSOR: Quad Core - Intel Core i7 2600 Processor - 3.40GHZ 8Mb
RAM: 6GB
VIDEO CARD: Integrated Intel HD2000
SOUND: Integrated 7.1 with THX Trustudio
HARD DRIVE: 1TB
MONITOR: LG (Led) HDScreen.
Hope that this will assist with solving my problem

I have to be honest with you Ken, I have previously used Corel U/lead DVD Movie Factory 5 plus, with much success. Its a shame that it didn't support AVCHD, as that system was very easy to operate.

Re: CREATING A DISC
I just want to ask, what program are you using to play or view the AVCHD DVD? Also after inserting the DvD on the DVD Drive, can you right click on it then select properties, then share the information here.
Thanks,
Thanks,

Re: CREATING A DISC
I think this whole thread may have at its core a fundamental misunderstanding on the part of yertizagain... At the outset I asked if he was wanting to prepare a standard definition DVD or an AVCHD hybrid disc. His answer was still not clear, but implied he was wanting to prepare an SD DVD. But later he said he jumped straight to Share > Create Disc > AVCHD. This will of course prepare a hybrid disc, not/not a video DVD. Yes, it uses a blank DVD, but what it burns is in fact a Blu-Ray structure on the disc, not a video DVD structure (which is a series of files with .vob, .ifo, and .bak extensions contained in a Video_TS folder). The video it contains is in standard definition mpeg-2 format. A Blu-Ray/hybrid disc folder, on the other hand, burns high definition video in that same HD format, with a hybrid disc using the AVCHD high def format. The video files are contained in a STREAM sub-folder contained within a BDMV folder.
And the kicker is that such discs can ONLY be played in a Blu-Ray player rated to play such discs. So if you don't have a Blu-Ray player, that is the simple explanation why you are getting the 'no disc' response.
If indeed you are genuinely after an SD DVD, then you should be choosing Share > Create Disc > DVD. Mind you, I would suggest that after editing, you first convert your AVCHD video to SD mpeg-2 by using Share > Create Video File > DVD if the project is around an hour long or less. If it is longer, then you would have to change the bitrate from its default 8000 kbps by using Share > Create Video File > Custom. As a general guide, a 90 minute project will need a bitrate of around 6000 kbps, and two hours will require around 4000 kbps. Much below that and the quality will drop off noticeably.
Then start a new project. Don't bother with a name. The objective is just to clear the timeline. Then choose Share > Create Disc > DVD and the burner will open with an empty timeline. Use the Insert Video Files button up in the top left to insert your new mpeg-2 and proceed from there.
