Lost project after crash

Post by Gash »

I have been working on a project for months on DVD Movie Factory 2010 and Corel VideoStudio pro x3 with multiple files and a custom background. While working on the project in DVD studio the program crashed. After restarting the program and PC I can no longr find my project on the projects page. I still have the video files and can start again but was wondering if there is a way of getting my project back.

I did find two files in the my projects folder on drive but they dont seem to be much help to me.
name of project.cdf.bak
name of project.cdf.auosave

Welcome to the forums, :)

It's one's worst nightmare to have the program crash and possibly destroy the project file. What several of us have adopted is a method that does not rely on the program's auto-save. We will frequently save our project, using a numerical naming convention, like projectname-01.cdf. CDF seems to be the extension that DVD Factory 2010 uses for its project files. I've also noticed some with the extension of VST, these may be those projects from VS X3, where you jump straight into the burning application, using VS' project files, and not creating a video file first.

So in the organizer, click on the Projects button on the left. It should then populate with any projects you have saved. You can then choose the project file, which in turn should have everything there. Now if that does not seem to work, then you are showing a back-up file. It uses the extension of BAK. If you jumped into DVD Factory from VS X3 (Share>Create Disc), you might need to rename this file from whateverproject.bak to whateverproject.vst. If not then use the file extension cdf, as in whateverproject.bak to whateverproject.cdf. Then try again using the Projects category in the organizer to see if it will open.

Edited
Just looked at the filenames in your post, just drop the BAK or autosave off the end of the file name. You need to do this in Windows Explorer. Then the program should see one of them in the organizer, Projects.

I have already tried remaming them, I nave tried numerous combinations including project name.cdf and poject name.vsp and project name.mpg but none seem to work and the my projects does not repopulate with these after renaming. Oh well I guess that will have to start again. At least I have all the edited clips and only need to create the dvd menu again and add all the clips, thanks anyway.
