First question is it Comfortably numb

Ok... That's not as easy as it should be, if VS used real moving/motion paths. There is the Enter/Exit provision for objects used in overlay tracks. It depends on if you want your photo to fly in as a standard shape. If so then you can use it. It is found on the Attribute tab, under Direction/Style. Clicking one of the arrows under each, will cause the object to enter or exit based on the direction of the arrow.

Once you set the direction, you need to set the Pause/Duration for your photo. This is done by the blue bar beneath the preview window. Moving the orange handles to the right and left adjusts this. The longer the blue bar, the longer the image is static, and the faster the motion of entering and exiting. If your blue bar is short, then it will take longer for your image to enter and exit, and your image will be displayed for a shorter period.

With VS X3 and X4, you can use the PiP filter, from New Blue FX. It is very customizable, using keyframes. You can have your image fly-in, then have various effects appear, like blurred boarders, have your image titled one way or another, have a reflection and so on.

To use a PiP filter you need to:
  1. First make sure your image on the overlay track is full sized/Fit to Screen. The filter is designed to work best this way.
  2. Apply the Full Mask to your photo.
  3. Now apply the PiP filter to your image
  4. Click on the Customize button for your PiP effect
In NB PiP customize dialog, you will see your image now appears smaller, Use the various controls to adjust what you want it to do, or apply one of the presets. Caution, when you open the NB PiP Customize dialog, the timeline by default is in the middle of the timeline. Any adjustments made will add a keyframe at this location. You should start at the first keyframe to make your initial adjustments.
