Paint Shop Photo Pro X3 Will Not Open

Post by karlasteinhoff »

I purchased the Photo & Video Pro Bundle yesterday and installed all of the programs. I had no problem or errors when installing any of the programs, but I am unable to open Paint Shop Photo Pro X3. Video Studio Pro X3 opens fine. I have tried using both the shortcut and going to the Corel folder and clicking on the exe file. The hourglass appears for a few seconds and nothing happens. I have taken the following steps in an effort to fix the problem:

1. I have uninstalled an reinstalled the program 3 times and the problem still continues.

2. I have uninstalled any Codec programs that i know are on my machine.

3. I have added an exclusion to my virus program (McAfee Enterprise) for the Corel folder.

The program still will not open. I am not receiving any error messages.

When I go into the windows task manager, the only processes I seed running that i believe might be related to the program are: Corel Photo Downloader, Corel Paint Shop Pro Project Creater (which as far as I know I did not open), and maybe Picture Mover (I am not sure what this is).

If anybody can give me any suggestions on what i can do to get the program open, I would appreciate it. Thanks.

Welcome to the forums, :)

You might try exempting PSP from D.E.P. (Data Execution Prevention). A short video tutorial can be found HERE

I thought I posted a reply, but I guess all posts have to be approved? Anyway, I apologize if I am repeating myself, but I changed that setting and added both PSP and VideoStudio to the list of programs and PSP still does not open. I am using Windows 7 and it looked like the instructions were for Windows XP or Windows Vista. Is there possibly something different in Windows 7 that needs to be addressed? I did check the website before buying it to confirm that the programs were Windows 7 (64 bit) compataible and it said they were.

I followed the instructions to remove paint shop pro completely and then reinstalled it as the administrator. Now I can't get into either Paint Shop Pro or Video Studio (which I was able to get into before). Could you please provide me with instructions to remove everything. Unless you have any other suggestions, I will contact customer service to see if I can get my money back. I am really disappointed because I used to have a version of Paint Shop Pro (for Windows XP) and I loved it. I was really looking forward to being able to use it again. Thanks.

Thanks for your help. I did call customer service and after they found out what I had tried (they had me try a couple things as well) they transferred me to technical support. The nice technician there had me up and running in a few minutes. The problem was in Properties/Compatibility. The box that said "run this program in compatibility mode for" was turned on. He had me turn that off and the program started right up. I had noticed that earlier but it did say Windows 7, so I had assumed it was right. Anyway, everything looks to be running fine now and I am one very happy camper. I am off to start making pretty pictures. :D
