Hi
You should be able to set all the templates I listed.
Make Movie Templates Manager
New ---- give it a name
File Format-- Mpeg4 Files
Compression Tab
Video Type H.264-Main
General Tab
Frame size to 1980 x 1080
Compression tab
Video Data rate to 17608
I don’t understand why you have to swap between tabs to achieve these settings.
For other template frame sizes you may have to use the User Defined option.

.
I've tried several times for the following :
MPEG-4 Files
24 bits, 1920 x 1080, 30 fps (cannot select any other than 30 fps) ??
Frame-based
H.264 Main Profile Video: 17608 Kbps
44100 Hz, 16 Bit, Stereo
MPEG AAC Audio: 128 Kbps
But it wont allow me to get above 720 x 756. Thats the highest the drop down box gives me and manually the box is greyed out preventing any user input ?

Hi
I don’t understand why you cannot create the templates.
Either its a windows 7 / Video Studio X3 issue or you are simply pressing the buttons in the wrong order.

Ok

Can you follow these instructions and tell me just where you have problems.

Re: VS X3 Linking H264 clips from Samsung HD
Trevor -- I think I am pressing the keys in the right order, but though I can, using mpeg-4 as the basis of the template, get 1920 x 1080, as soon as I do it is set to 30 fps and greyed out and unchangeable. And of course, like Stwilliam, I am in a PAL country.
My own preference in this circumstance would be to use the MPEG Transport Stream option you also mentioned. It gives both AVCHD, 1920 x 1080 and also, importantly, 25 fps. But I am surprised that Stwilliam finds it so time consuming, especially with his set-up.

Thanks Ken
Yes i can only get 30 fps using that template, hence my use of AVI.
"But it wont allow me to get above 720 x 756" is the last comment from Stwilliam
As you know you have to jump back and forth between tabs to set the options.

Re: VS X3 Linking H264 clips from Samsung HD
I had to re-install the software and finally got both templates.
The m2t files are ok, but MPCHC ( which should play anything) stutters like mad, so I've opted for the 30 fps meg (mp4) it appears to give a good result although it takes around 3 minutes to render a 20 second clip.
The avi file comes out to large ( original 43 MB ) output avi 130 MB
I would assume that once these have been rendered, then If I trim any of the clips (which I cant do until they have been rendered into the above formats)I can use the smart render and avoid any secondry rendering ?
