revo stock

Post by Ilene »

does VS X4 come with the same revo stock templates that came with VS X3??? I have both and never installed past VS X2 --- My computer recently shut down during an electrical storm and started up with some Windows boot errors.... I had to restore my computer back to day 1, but fortunately I didn't lose ANY data!! I do need to reinstall all my programs though.... I was going to install X2 as I'm used to it... and skip over X3 and go right to X4 --- just want to be sure that it came with the same content as those revo stock templates look interesting!!

Also hope I can get all the add-on transition packages working again.... canopus vfx, hollywood fx, adorage, boris factory, burger transitions and new blue... any advice as to whether all of these will still work with VS X4.

good news is I can get rid of all the junk on my computer and clean up.... bad news is, it will take me a few days to get it back to the way it was :-(

any advice appreciated....
any info on revo stock and skipping over X3 appreciated

Also --- I know there were some issues with X3 and the dvd authoring module... have they been fixed in X4? Does it work similar to X2??

thanks

As far as I am aware, the Revo stock templates came as part of the awful DVD Factory 2010, rather than X3 as such. And of course DVD Factory 2010 was the disastrous new, simplistic burning engine included for the first -- and thankfully (hopefully!) last -- time with VS. X4 has reverted to the X2 burning engine and its reliance on .ufo-based designs (which Revo does not use). And again as far as I am aware, the Revo templates cannot be used in X4.

hi Ken

thanks for the answer re the menu templates --- glad it looks/works similar to VS X2

my question about the RevoStock templates was not however about dvd "menu" templates, but instant "project" templates... the VS X3 boxed version says on the back Studio-qulaity effects and templates - " NEW professionally designed templates - start with top quality designs, including RevoStock templates worth over $500" --- these are for dropping images or video clips in a pre-set sequence with graphics and motion already embedded. Are you aware if they exist in X4??

BtW in my previous post I should mention that my PC was attached to a surge protector and I have a lightening arrester on my house and I still had a problem... I think the PC was doing something at the precise time the power went out and therefore some instruction in windows set up became corrupted ( an hll.dll file) -- we did try all the window fixes to repair the boot record etc but couldn't get passed the windows logo screen! ( just in case anyone thought I was an idiot for having a PC fail in an electrical storm!) In the future I will have battery back up and am planning to invest in a server to keep it a disk image backed up!

X4 comes with instant project templates, though I have to confess complete ignorance of whether they are -- or include -- any Revo stock ones. From memory, the ones I saw in DVD Factory 2010 are not amongst them. It may just be old age creeping up not so slowly on me, but even as a beta tester of X4, I don't recall any specific mention of Revo stock in relation to it.

But Corel has set up a new website where you can download lots more templates of both menu and instant project kinds, and swap them with other users: http://www.photovideolife.com/

Pity about the PC and the storm. Like you, I have at least some of my (9!!) computers protected by surge protectors, include a Belkin one which claims to have a $750,000 guarantee against anything going wrong with it (plus another small Belkin for laptops which only promises a quarter of a mil). But as a lawyer, I sometimes wonder what fine print they would find to wriggle out of it should anything in fact go zzzzt!

I saw corel's new site --- interesting

I doubt I'll be able to get all my fx packages working again, but the new blue are nice and I'm sure I'll find others...

to load X4 from the upgrade cd's all I have to do is type in a serial number from any other version I've owned to activate??

many thanks

That's correct, so long as the others are qualifying versions, which for VS X4 would need to be VS X2 or higher.

I forgot to mention that my versions of Canopus, Adorage and New Blue all work with X4, and I recall seeing others using Burger successfully with it. I don't have the others you mention.
