Pause/Freeze Video During Narration

Post by ikhan »

I will be importing a bunch of video clips without audio in X4 and also importing MP3 files. For a majority of the clips I will be recording a Narration Audio and the goal is to synch the audio with what is happening in the videos and as such I need functioanlity where I can pause/freeze the video while narraating. I have been unable to find this feature in X4. Is there anyway this can be done ?

I am also open to importing the video clips and audio clips into X4 and then making them synch somehow, but I may still need to pause the video at some stage to make the audio synch.

Help Please. I am on a critical time limit !

Welcome to the forums, :)

They way I would approach this since VS does not have a Freeze Frame function, would be to first create a still image of the frame where you want to add the narration. This is done by having the clip selected in the timeline, in Clip Mode, go to the Edit menu and select Take Snapshot. This will place a image in your Library, having the correct frame size.

Next cut your video clip at that exact frame. Then drag and drop the "snapshot" from the library, dropping where you made the cut. Now all you have to do is set the duration of the "snapshot", to match that of your narration. I would do the narration first, which can be done in VS, then adjust your image to that duration. Just align the left edge of your narration with the left edge of your snapshot. Now grab the yellow handle on the right edge of your snapshot and drag it out to the right to match the duration of your narration.

Some use third-party special audio programs, like Audacity to do their narrations. It seems to provide better quality than VS' audio recorder. Once you've completed your narration in Audacity, save it as a WAV file, since VS gets along better with WAV files than it does with MP3, and import it into VS, and do what I suggested above.
