Hi all,
I used to use VS10 but had a slower computer so I rarely used it. now I switched to a much faster and better one and I moved up to VS X3 and am using it a lot more, which brings up a question. I've printed the whole 166 page manual and bound it and have been reading it but can't find the answer. And I'm sorry if this is the wrong place for this question, I debated on whether to put it in the dvd factory thread or not. Anyway, the choices for, and I'm not sure what to call them so I'll call them menus, when burning dvds are limited and I was wondering if I can make my own? By menus I mean just that, the menu that lists the dvd name, previews and chapter lists and if i can't make my own is there a place where I can find more?

Re: DVD 'menus'
Welcome to the forums,
This does pertain more to a DVD program, however we don't know if you're referring to DVD Factory 2010, which is the default program that comes with VS X3, or the replacement to that terrible program, DVD MovieFactory 7SE? So for now I'll leave your post here..
A simple answer that fits both programs is No you can't just create the menus. You can however customize most of them. This will provide really a lot of different menus. You take what they provide, change the background image to say a background video or vice-versa. Most of the templates allow you to change the layout, the frames, and buttons. I agree that some do not, and that there are fewer templates available for the high-def, Blue-Ray.
If you're using the default, DVD Factory 2010, I strongly urge you to download the free replacement DVD MovieFactory 7SE. It should be included with one of the updates/service packs.
If you just upgraded to VS X3, why? VS X4 is the current version, and uses the same burn module concept as VS 10. I don't know how much you paid for VS X3, but right now you can pick up VS X4 directly from Corel for only $39.00 US Upgrade price. However VS 10 does not qualify, but VS X3 certainly does.

Re: DVD 'menus'
I just posted a reply but don't see it so I'm not sure if it posted right so here goes agan: All i need to do is change the background so you've pretty much answered my question. If DVD Factory 2010 is the default that comes with X3 then I guess that's what I'm using. Does MovieFactory 7SE work from inside Video studio? I'll try to find it and update to it. I really don't like Corel and try to avoid them. As for why I bought it. X4 is $50, even the upgrade as you pointed out is $40. I bought X3 on Ebay for $15. I don't make any money from what I do and am retired and not wealthy. I do things for three local non profit organizations. $50 or $15, I'm not a professional and can't afford or justify that much.
If this double posts, Either you or I can delete one, that is if i can delete my own posts. Thanks for getting back to me so quickly.

Another reason why I got X3 over X4 was that I didn't see any significant differences that made x4 more useful to me.

Followup:
I downloaded 7SE and installed it. It won't start because it says I don't have enough resources. That's probably because I need more RAM, which I will be addressing in a few days. Also. I forgot that posts have to be checked by moderators first and that's why my post wasn't there. Please delete either the first or second one as it's just a duplicate. The other forums i hang out at don't do that and I'll keep it in mind in the future. thanks.

Welcome to the forums gms9810,
First, yes we have the board setup so that the first few posts must be approved. Before we were able to do this, we were flooded with spam, and that is not easy to manage and keep of the web board. However you're now past that minimum..
As far as needing more RAM to run DVD MF7SE, no don't think so. I can run it, and I only have 2GB RAM. It might be that you had other programs running that already had the RAM tied up, which could result in DVD MF7 not being allocated enough.
It's certainly understandable buying within your means. There is some risk involved when buying software off of sites like Ebay. They could be SE, Trial or pirated versions, could be infected with a virus, and then they could be the full program, but the seller has already registered it. Just need to be cautious..

Re: DVD 'menus'
This was never used and sealed or I wouldn't have bought it. I would rather have given that $15 to a person than to Corel. I don't plan on ever giving them another penny. I used to use PSP 10 and had a really bad experience with them. I completely understand checking and approving each post. I don't have any problem with it other than my forgetting it. I realized that I told you wrong regarding my RAM, I only have 1G but will be going to 2 or 4, depending on what we can scrounge up. I'll fool with 7SE and see exactly whats up with it. I can get by using the default that comes with X3 if I have to. I don't need to do anything fancy. The main colors of a current project I'm doing for a local pregnancy resource center is green so I wanted a greenish menu. If I can just make a simple green gradient and use it that will be fine. I could have done it with kdenlive, which you probably know is the Linux version of VS but I've seen what VS can do because we use it at church a lot. I paid about $20 to have the whole manual printed so if I upgraded to x4 my $20 would be wasted. I don't do anything really elaborate so X3 should do ok for me. All I have is my social security, which gets us by but that's about all, and our meds costs us about $400 a month so I have to be sensible about what I buy. The last time I got extravagant was when I bought my bamboo, but it was an excellent investment. Thanks again.
