16:9 Menus? Allowing First Play to be an existing entry?

Post by pennstat »

Two things with DW 2.0 that I find to be annoying.

The first is that it doesn't appear to support 16:9 menus. Every other entry, from the first play to the various videos themselves, support 16:9 and display as 16:9. However, menus look anamorphic, which will not be acceptible to those who play the DVD on a regular 4:3 TV. Maybe I'm missing something that I didn't find when I RTFM, but it looks like menus have to be for 4:3 or 16:9, but cannot be designed for both. Anyone?

Also, I'm really disgusted with how a first play movie has to be its own entity. I make a lot of 2 DVD sets because of the cost-prohibitive nature of dual-layer DVD-Rs over single-layer. (A $5 DVD-DL compared to a $.50 DVD-R. Uh ... let me think.) I would like the second part to start automatically upon inserting disc 2 while still making it available from a menu function. Apparently, DW 2.0 doesn't allow that. The first play entry has to be a totally separate entry that is then not accessible from the menu. This means that if the main file is 3 GB but the whole DVD is 4.2 GB, if I link the main file as first play DW thinks "Duh, gee, Tennessee! This is a totally new file!" and the size shoots up to 7.2 GB.

Again, I've looked through TFM and done as much poking around as I can think of in the program. I can't see any functionality that would allow me to do this. If I'm wrong on this, please enlighten me.

no 16:9 menu at the moment. You can create your dvd to your hard drive, then using IFOEdit, you can edit the DVD and change the menu to 16:9 (it's a workaround, but it works).

The first play is a separate entity. If you want to auto-play the movie, don't use the First Play slot. Instead, have your first menu be a black menu with an invisible button that links to your title. Then make the timeout of the first menu be 1 second -- it will appear to play automatically when inserted. Use the Playlist to go to a 2nd menu when the title finishes.
