No Video Preview During Capture VSX4

Post by mitcs0ke »

I did a sheach for and found someone else with no video preview during capture and did not see a cure to the problem.
I just installed and updated VS X4 on Windows 7 and have the same problem. The capture goes perfectly it just does not
show a preview on the screen.
I tried capturing in Windows Movie Maker and it shows a preview while capturing

Direct X upto date
preference set to window preview.

Any other suggestions

Thanks guys

Hi

There is a free capture software Win DV which is used by many forum Mini-DV users.
I prefer this as you can set the capture file names.

Although you don’t say what type of camera, Can you give more details regarding the camera, how it is connected to the pc. What properties are you selecting to set up the capture?

Hi Trevor:
The Camcorder is a Panasonic PV GS150 and capture is through
a firewire.
Under Capture options I did notice that Capture Audio and Force Preview
each had a check in their boxes, but are grayed out.
Everything else works just find.

I might just try Win DV, I like being able to set the capture names.

Hi

I own a Panasonic GS400, have just tried to replicate the black screen but unable to do so.
The Capture Audio and Force Preview are as you describe, so I assume this to be correct.

The only difference I can see with our setup is the Windows 7 to XP.

I always used older versions Video Studio to capture my Mini-DV, I no longer use Corel Video Studio X4 to capture and I have started using WinDV.
I generally use Split by Scene, now X4 is not that accurate at selecting the frame to cut. At least that’s how I see it. Maybe I’m a little picky……

After all the capture process does not include any re-coding, the footage is literally transferred to the pc,
What you have is what you get DV-Avi, that’s assuming you select DV as the capture format and not DVD.
The only capture option I choose is DV Type 1

I suppose if every other capture program is ok then it has to be a VS issue.

Thanks for the reply Trevor:
I too capture all video in DV Type !
I did notice that the Split by Scene did act as I was used to.
It broke up a video of 21 minutes into 3 parts and there were no gaps
or blips or anything in the video.

One thing I did notice though on further testing was that if I do a
DV Scan of the tape while in the capture module, it will list all the scenes it finds at the top and after it gets done
I can then select a scene while still in the DV Scan Capture screen and it will play the
clip in the capture preview window!!!!!!!! Imagine that!!!!!

I have to say though that VSX4 is fast on my PC.
I took my 21 min video in dv avi format and added a small title at the front with a small ending,
went right to the burn module with the video still in avi format added a small menu
and then hit go!
From start to finish 8.5 minutes.......Love it
