What you're wanting to do is create a video file from your project. So a real simple fast answer is go to the Share step, select Create Video File, then choose one of the various types of video files, such as WMV. If you want to burn a video dvd, then you should choose a format that is meant for burning to video dvd. These would be PAL or NTSC (depending on your region), DVD.

VS is a non-destructive, Non-Linear Editor (NLE). This means that you're original source files are not damaged in the process. VS uses references to your source files, then once your editing is finished, VS then creates a new file, leaving your original untouched. VSP files (VideoStudio Project) are simply put, text-like containing all the instructions for creating new video files, such as the location of your clips, where you want to cut them, filters and effects applied, and so on.

I think RON already got it covered in any case, here's a quick video on how to create a video file using VS X4.
