Making UFO Files compatible with Corel Programs

Since Ulead PhotoImpact is being phased out and done away with...
Which if ANY of the Corel programs are or will be able to open & use the PhotoImpact UFO files...??

Is there a way to convert these UFO Files to use within PaintShop Photo Pro X3...??

I also see they are still selling PhotoImpact X3 $29.99 Download
http://www.corel.com/corel/product/inde ... PK_PI13ESD

But I also see it is sold by another company - - Nova Development
http://www.novadevelopment.com/software ... y-software
Box version for only $99.95

Is Nova going to continue on with PhotoImpace - or are they just a re-packager...??
In September 2009 Corel has discontinued the product - they have keep selling it for 3 years...
And they DON'T SEE it still sells - and people desire it...??

"IF" any of this has been asked - Please forgive me
I attempted to search through

There is the potential that they might include the ability to open UFO files by their other programs. We'll have to wait and see when the newest versions of PhotoPaint and PaintShopPro to find out for sure if there is any serious consideration for it. If it's not supported after their newest iterations it's possible they won't at all but at that point it's really anyone's guess.

I suppose a special request could be made for the actual format to be released so people can make their own import and export software for it. But somehow I doubt they'd agree to that.

And as far as I know Corel has never explained their reasons for dropping PI. It's entirely possible that as many people as you know what it, may not have been good enough for Corel to keep it. And it's entirely possible that it was good enough to keep PI but they wanted to to gain users for their current line. It's also possible that they just didn't want to maintain a third piece of software for photo editing to go with their others.

As for novadevelopment, I think they are doing it as an OEM. Hard to say because again I haven't heard anything special.

.UFO is the native file to Ulead PhotoImpact, now owned by Corel and cannot be use in any other software, currently.
It is a file extension that will die out with PI. You could turn your .ufo into .png or .psd and therefore will open in other software.

Nova Development only sell PI. They do not have anything to do with creating it.

PIX3 will continue to be sold whilst there are still supplies available. Once that supply is depleted, you won't be able to purchase it.

I agree with what Levi said about Corel and PI. It is sad for us PI users that this excellent software is to eventually die.

Well turning .ufo into png does not work.... it flattens the layers
It seems the ONLY alternative is to turn it into .psd

I bit the bullet and ordered the Corel PaintShop Photo Pro X3 Ultimate $29.99 - and MOSTLY because of the pricing
To me it sure is a BIG BIG Change from PI-X3 - and WoW what a learning curve for me.

From "MY VIEW"...
It seems a bit spiteful that Corel would not incorporate the .ufo file extension - seeing as they own it... and people use it...

it seems as if they want to FORCE Ulead users to abandon PI and all other Ulead programs.
How much longer will they allow VideoStudio to keep using the .ufo extension before THEY phase it out - no longer needed...

Looking at your profile, you too are still running Vista, and PI X3 seems to run fine on it. Until you upgrade your OS to Win7, you should still be able to use PI X3 for some time.

Steve and I both have been after Corel for quite some time to fully implement the UFO format into PSP. However they refuse to provide an answer as to why they have not. We also took the approach of if they will not implement the UFO file format, then change the video side of things, by allowing menus to be created using the PSP proprietary format, or just simply use PNG, TIFF or BMP. Again the same "no response"...

It seems as though they use a military "top-secret" approach, where everything is compartmentalized. The PSP team is not allowed to talk to the video/dvd team. In other words, the left-hand does not know what the right-hand is doing.

Saving the file as a .psd all features will be saved and you can open them in Photoshop, PhotoImpact and PaintShop Pro.

... but of course the change in format means they can't be used for menu templates in Video Studio...

looks like PSP can open .ufo files and layers intact BUT layers such as text cannot be edited so no different that exporting from PI to .psd files

Was looking for a reason to switch from PI to PSP as opposed to Photoshop

Well, you cannot open a .ufo in photoshop either.

You can open a .ufo in PSP but it is not editible like in PI. This is one of the gripes we have with Corel PSP Devlopers.

WMF can be opened in PSP are are editible. go figure!

Well, PI won't be around for much longer. Also, it just may not work at all on up and coming new operating systems.
PI is now too old and defunct!

There are lots of things that the PSP development team should do, but don't. Lol, many of them do not have a clue about PhotoImpact either.

It would be good if the .UFO were editable in PSP and it's one of the issues I've put to them for the next version. Will it happen, who knows!

Until last week [Dec. 17, 2019 specifically], my PhotoImpact X3 worked wonderfully [not too old, nor defunct, nor obsolete just a really great program that had worked for it's users for 20+ years] ... I have been able to upgrade all the way to Windows 10 ... then a scheduled Windows update happened and from that point on a file in PI simply disappeared ... I even did a system restore and uninstalled my version, reinstalled and still it will not open ... things that make me go hhmmm and now I have 3 businesses, a ministry and all my church work that I cannot open and will have to spend unknown hours recreating in a program that has a learning curve that literally one needs a college ed in.  :!:

same thing happened to me about 4 months ago

PaintShop Pro 20 will open UFO files WITH Layers intact which is newish for PSP so you can still use your own files

I was a long tine user of PI going back to early ULEAD days. PSP stil cannot do things as easily as some things in PSP but I am trying to adapt. It has only one advantage - opening RAW files better

Hi RRHudgins
And welcome to the forums
I have used PI X3 for quite a few years mainly to create DVD Menu Templates to use with Video Studio
However improvements in Video Studio has caused compatibility issues with the UFO.

Even so X3 continues to work ok on my computer and indeed I am able to open the UFO using PSP 2020
