Create Disc in Video Studio Pro X4
I currently have the trial version of Video Studio Pro X4. I would like to purchase it if I can complete a project and burn to DVD. I was able to create and edit a video of a recent concert at our church that looks great. I went through the steps of Create Disc and burn to DVD of the 2 Hour video (It took over 12 Hours to burn). The DVD seems to play on the computer with no problem, but when I try to play it on a DVD player attached to the TV, it says there is no disc, the player does not recognize the DVD. I used a Memorex DVD+R DL 8x 8.5GB 240 Min. (double layer). I have promised many people I would provide them a DVD of the concert. What do I need to do to produce a DVD that will play on a DVD player through the TV? Please help.

12 hours is WAY too long for it to take to burn.

Re: Create Disc in Video Studio Pro X4
In addition, that burning time suggests to me that you did your editing and then jumped straight to Share > Create Disc. While that is a possible workflow, long years of experience have taught quite a few of us here that it is better to do your editing, then produce a DVD-compatible mpeg-2 of your project (Share > Create Video File) before proceeding to the burning stage, where you would insert that new file instead of the project file that VS inserts automatically when you jump direct to Share > Create Disc. Jumping direct to the latter means that your project file has to first be converted to the DVD-compatible mpeg-2, but this occurs as part of an already complex multiplexing and burning process. While your computer has more than enough grunt to normally be able to handle this, if the project is a complex one done, for example, originally in high definition video and with lots of transitions, editing, filters, voiceovers and music added, it could amount to the straw which breaks Video Studio's back... That is why we need all that information the Black Lab has requested...
In addition, home-burned dual layer DVDs have always been a bit of a hit and miss business. In theory they should work, and no doubt there are users here who never have problems with them. Moreover, they are large enough to be able to encompass your two hour project using high quality settings (notably, a bitrate of 8000 kbps). But as I say, for many users -- myself included -- they cause problems. And you cannot judge them against commercial dual layer discs since the latter are pressed from a master copy, rather than individually burned. The alternative workflow you might want to consider would be to split your project in half and burn each half to a single layer disc.

Re: Create Disc in Video Studio Pro X4
Thank you Ken Berry,
I tried your procedure of creating a video file (mpeg-2) first. I then opened VS Pro X4 and went directly to create disc, where I used the mpeg-2 file I created earlier. I thin added the chapters and Title & chapter menus. Then I created and ISO file of the project. Then I burned the ISO file to double layer DVD using Image Burn. The DVD plays as expected on the computer in Cyberlink Power DVD 9 with menus. It also plays on our DVD player connected to the TV, however, the title menu and Chapter menu do not appear even though you can jump to the next chapter. What must I do so that the final DVD will show the Title and Chapter Menus? Also, is there a good tutorial that explains 'Setting and Options' and 'Project Settings' that are in the lower left of the Create Disc screen? I have many more home videos I want to put on DVD to preserve and would like to do the best job I can.
Thank you

Hi
As mentioned by Ken …. DL discs have caused some problems for some users.
I have tried using DL with 50% success not very good.
Just to confirm …are you saying the ISO plays the menu structure as expected with no problems, yet when burned to disc gives problems?
Have you tried rendering the project (2hrs) using 4000kbps and Digital Dolby Audio this should allow you to fit 120 minutes to a single layer 4.3gb disc.
The quality will obviously reduce a little, similar to VHS quality, given the relatively still subject matter should produce a suitable disc. (worth a try)
Use Settings Make Movie Templates Manager to create your template.
The single layer disc will certainly be more compatible for playing on stand alone DVD players.
Lower Left icons, not a lot to be said really………….
“Setting and Options”
I have only used this to allocate the Working Folder, this is a different folder to the one used for capture and edits.
“Project Settings”
Upper Panel----As you create a compliant Mpeg2 file these settings are not needed or used
The Do Not Convert Compliant Mpeg2 files is checked by default and should remain so.
The lower panel “Navigation Controls” selects how your disc reacts to the remote control and how it plays the menu. Plays All or Returns to Menu, only affects Titles not Chapters.

Re: Create Disc in Video Studio Pro X4
To answer your question. After creating the ISO file, I mounted it on a Virtual Drive on the computer and played it using Cyberlink Power DVD. The project played fine with all of the menus being visible. I then burned the ISO file to a Double Layer DVD. I played the actual DVD on the computer and the project played fine with all of the menus being visible. Then I played the same DVD disc using a DVD player connected to the TV and it player, but I could not get the menus to show even though the chapters played fine. It would be nice to have the menus show on the DVD Player connected to the TV.

Re: Create Disc in Video Studio Pro X4
That sounds like an issue with your player, not your disc.

Hi
From your reply I would suspect a compatibility issue between the player and the discs..
I don’t understand about mounting iso’s although I have heard of the term before,
I simply right click the ISO file and select Play with VLC Media Player.
The player opens and plays the video.
As I mentioned earlier you may be best to try a single layer disc?

Re: Create Disc in Video Studio Pro X4
To All,
I reviewed all of the advice that was given and was able to solve the problem. I finally divided the 2 hour program into two 2 hour programs. I then created the DVD video files. Then I used create disc to create the chapter and menus. I burned the disc using a single layer DVD-R. The DVD now plays on the DVD player connected to the TV and the menus work properly. Thanks for all of the help.
