Protexis Licensing keeps "disabling" itself
The Protexis Licensing program that comes with Paint Shop Pro V2 keeps disabling itself and stopping PsPV2 from running. I "reactivate" Protexis at least once a day. Corel says it is another program that is doing it ( re Mcafee) and McAfee says it is a problem with Corel/Protexis anti piracy function. Any one have any idea what is causing this"

Re: Protexis Licensing keeps "disabling" itself
There has to be a way to make the two of them play nice together. I don't have McAfee so I'm not familiar with the settings available to the user, but is there a place within McAfee that you can tell it Protexis is trusted?

Many antiviral/antispyware applications have an area where you can specify specific applications as safe. Try doing that with the Protexis.exe and "D:\Corel PaintShop Photo Pro\X3\PSPClassic\Corel Paint Shop Pro Photo.exe" files to exclude them from monitoring. In your filewall they should be allowed safe passage as well.

Re: Protexis Licensing keeps "disabling" itself
When I try to put exempt them from a scan, I get a message that they area "critical" file and must be scanned to maintain my PC security
Just wonder why there are two Protexis files?
ProtexisLicensing
Protexis Licensing V2
Any ideas??

Your security package should have a log file. Check it after the problem occurs to see what actions it took with either Protexis file.
When dealing with your security application go in as administrator and see if you can make the changes. What application are you using?
I don't recall but I think I have another application that uses Protexis. I've seen both services running at times.

Re: Protexis Licensing keeps "disabling" itself
I have both Protexis and Protexis v2. In my system they are both related to Corel products, but Protexis isn't Corel specific. Protexis is what PSP X uses and v2 is for PSP X3. Both are active and working side by side with no problems. Other programs may use it as well. Basically it's a small service that verifies your software is paid for and is an anti-piracy measure.
Walkerstoo, how are you restarting the service? You can go into Windows Services protocol by holding the Windows key and pressing R, then putting Services.MSC into the run box (not case sensitive). When the dialog comes up you can scroll down to Protexis Licensing V2 (or the service you want to adjust), right click and click Properties. Startup Type should be Automatic, but you can change it to Automatic (Delayed Start) which should delay it's starting until your CPU has reached a certain state of unuse, or Manual which would turn on the service when another program tries to use it, like PSP. If it's set to disabled then this is likely the problem.
Once you change something it's changed. It wouldn't take much to change it back but you have to do it (or use a system restore point). That being said I advise you not to screw around in the Services too much as many services rely on other services and you can screw up your computer. Turn off Telephony for example and you now don't have any internet connection, even though the name would imply telephone connection and you have DSL. Get in, do what you need too, get out.
I just googled batch file start a service and tons of hits came up, so if you need to you can write a batch file to start the service at startup or the batch file can start the service then start PSP. I've never done it, but it appears it's possible.

Re: Protexis Licensing keeps "disabling" itself
thanks for both replys
I use McAfee Total Protection...will have to try changes as admin
I restart programs by just going to RUN..type services.msc
the Protexis will show as "disabled" I change it to Automatic...then use the "start" function
to start the program. It changes back to "disabled" at least once a day.
Perhaps the "manual"setting would be better? If its "disabled" when starting PSPv I get a message
telling me PSPV is illegally modified and to reinstall. Resetting Protexis allow me to use it tho
Has me confused for sure.......
thanks
