PSPx3 Crashing

Post by melissapugs »

I've been very satisfied with the first few weeks of PSP x3...except for the last 2days, when I've attempted to use guides. And each time I do, BAM! Crash. Lose all progress. Bordering on ridiculous, since everything else -including operations that have to use far more memory - is fine. I close out of the program more frequently, save more frequently, shut down my computer more often, try to move the cursor slower when placing the guides...anything and everything, and nothing works. Program never responds after the unresponsiveness starts - I've let it sit for half an hour with no reconnection. All updates are up to date. It's a brand new laptop with all Windows updates up to date, so this level of the crazies with a program like this is really troubling.
I will be returning this for a refund if someone from Corel customer service doesn't get this resolved - I think I still have a couple weeks.
In the mean time, I though maybe someone here might have something to try. I very much like the program otherwise, but I will defect to Adobe if this can't be solved. Heck, the GIMP has a lot of these features - I just am very used to the PSP UI from all the previous versions.
Thanks very much for any help.

This has apparently, according to some reports, been a bug since PSP8 but it's not an overly consistent one. I know some people who no longer have the guide bug after the third or fourth patch and others like yourself who get it almost immediately no matter how up to date PSPX3 is.

The current workaround is to drop the guide right after making it. Don't wait, don't try to move it into position. As soon as it exists drop it onto the canvas.

For most this bug only effects the creation of guides not the use of guides. So after it's been made you should be able to move it wherever your heart desires with no problems. This adds a maximum 1 second to your workflow.

I do predict that the next version probably won't have this problem since we've made such a stink about it. But I also predict we won't get a fix for X3. It's also been over a year since X3 came out so that version is probably only a few months away.

And it's not fair to compare the GIMP's number of features, since most of those came from the community and not the dedicated developer group . A community that has a much more flexible and open access to adding amazing tools and features that we don't have with PSP. If Corel released a plug-in guide for effective plugin options I'm sure we could begin adding most of the features Corel refuses to. *sigh* But that's unlikely to happen.

I would like to thank you SOOOOOOO much for this. You are dead on - I drop 'em and place em later. So strange, but hey, it works.
Yes, I agree about the unfair comparison - but it is what it is. I do very much wish there were more resources on PSP X3 available from people like yourself and other creative types - I had only used previous versions for photo editing, and so have a really hard time getting basic TUTs on basic features - most of the private sites I find apply to versions so outdated that it's hard to get a read on all of the features x3 offers - and there are a ton of things I'd like to learn that most here would consider elementary.
Echo on your sigh. I hope it's not worse with ANOTHER edition - perhaps I should've waited to purchase.
Again, thanks so much for your very quick and most useful response. :) Have a good one, MP

Well most tutorials are accurate for PSP for the most part with a few exceptions. If you can learn which ones are different you can start applying the older tutorials to the newer software.

I don't know if you've seen this or not, of if it'll help, but I do have a small set of videos on YouTube for dealing with PSP and I started with version X2. http://www.youtube.com/my_playlists?p=6DE8B7582FF10FEA I don't like them but they do introduce the basics.
