VideoStudio Crashes and asks to send in dump file?
I can't seem to find the dump file again, what is the file directory to find these dump files, and where should I be submitting them since I have a trial version.
thanks for the help,

Try searching your system for *.dmp. I have a folder that was created by one of Corel's programs, that has some *.dmp files from different programs. On my Vista machine is found at C:\Users\Your User Name\AppData\Local\CrashDumps
Where to send them? That's a good question. Corel used to provide the means on their website to attach them with an email. You can try emailing them to Yvonne.Chuang_AT_corel.com. (Replace the "AT" with the email address symbol "@", and no underlines _ ). There is a post somewhere in the forum where she replied and provided her email address. This is after I pointed out the removal of the attachment provision on their website.

I thought the error message gave the path to the dump file.I can't seem to find the dump file again, what is the file directory to find these dump files, and where should I be submitting them since I have a trial version.

Oh it does, but you can't copy and paste it and I forgot to write it down.

Re: VideoStudio Crashes and asks to send in dump file?
I'm using the TBYB version with SP1 upgrade. That message I have seen three times in one day of intensive work.
I was able to rebuild last session every time, but I don't know if I have the strenght to find and submit these dumps every time.
Anyway, the X4 seems as good as the older Ulead VS 9 and 11. What is new for oldies with Mini DV cams? Nothing?

Re: VideoStudio Crashes and asks to send in dump file?
Since technology in video recording has advanced, I guess this could be answered with a question, formulated by just rewording your question. What is new with mini-DV cams? You get the same answer, Nothing. Since DV is now an old technology, yet not an outdated one, there really is not anything different or new with it. Having nothing new with DV, how would software makers, like Corel, provide something new for an old technology? Being able to transfer video recorded on a camcorder started with the DV SD format, and has now evolved into the HD formats, so they just build onto the original adding the newer formats.Radioman62 wrote:What is new for oldies with Mini DV cams? I'll mention here, there is suppose to be an improved rendering engine for up-scaling SD to HD. So with DV you could create an HD video, but don't expect the result to be equal to HD video that originated as HD.

That upscaling I will try and see what I get. But for DVD's this doesn't apply ?
Anyway It's nice to see someone of the old posters still hangin' around.
I didn't expect anything new explicit for the mini DVd recorder, but new functions and extra in the software. The user Black lab told me some in another thread. For nice slow action home movies There is all you need in the older versions I think.
Theres just one thing bad, that was there also in UVS way back. Nothing has changed since then. The black is not totally black when converted to DVD. Almost but not really, compared to running the tape directly to the TV set. The DVD copy is somewhat washed out. I don't know how to solve that issue easily. It's about chroma settings. I have brought this issue up before but it seems no one is as picky about the best quality as I am. I mean it takes some effort to edit your movies and at least I don't want to redo the work again later in life.

The color difference may be due to using the Color Filter NTSC or PAL. In Preferences dialog go to the Edit tab and uncheck the box beside Apply Color Filter.

Re: VideoStudio Crashes and asks to send in dump file?
Thanks for a good tip to try Ron.
I didn't help though. I couldn't see any difference at all.
There was a thread once, I can't find now. Seems to be erased. I have it on paper though. The subject was MPEG encoder settings in VS11+
The starter of it was Jack_HDV and replys came from vidoman, Ken Berry and etech6355.
The tip in there was to add the Advance=1 in the uvs.ini file under the subject [viodriver]. I have tried this on the new Corel VS X4 but no sucess. The mapstructure is also a bit different in W7.
The meaning with this added line was to get another button "advanced" under the tab "compression" and be able to change "primary colors" via a dropdown list.
Anyone remember this? Does anyone knows here how to do it in Corel VS?

Re: VideoStudio Crashes and asks to send in dump file?
Here's a couple of the posts you're referring to;
http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php ... e25#p49645
http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php ... 76#p150276
I've tried it with VS X4 on my WIn XP machine, and it causes the program to crash when clicking on the Create Video File. With Vista, it doesn't allow me to even save the uvs.ini file. I'd have to change the permissions on the file before I could save it. Even with that it will not work. Corel changed the MPEG Encoder, after VS X2, where you can no longer create an MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 (non-DVD compliant), and somehow that messed with the creation of the Advance button.

Re: VideoStudio Crashes and asks to send in dump file?
Thanks again Ron, I will look at those links?
I'm desperat and started a new thread with a better subject to the issue.
I can accept slightly worce quality in such a software as this, with everything included but this blacklevel issue is, IMHO, a malfunction/error in the encoder settings somehow. Not acceptable at all, even for the "amateur hobby desktop video person".

Since this is getting duplicated I"m going to lock this thread. Please go to http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php ... 07#p224807 for more information and to continue discussions concerning the MPEG Output dialog.
