Hi,
I have failed on 6 attempts to install VS x4. I've tried:
1. running vs_cleaner first
2. installing the visual basic 2005 x86 & 64-bit runtimes manually
3. running in a different profile.
Installation states that it is successful but here's what is installed.
------------------------------
C:\Program Files (x86)\Corel\Corel VideoStudio Pro X4>dir
Volume in drive C is Home-PC-C
Volume Serial Number is 94FE-65EC
Directory of C:\Program Files (x86)\Corel\Corel VideoStudio Pro X4
2011.07.20 01:48 PM <DIR> .
2011.07.20 01:48 PM <DIR> ..
2011.07.20 01:49 PM <DIR> AVControl
2011.07.20 01:49 PM <DIR> profiles
0 File(s) 0 bytes
4 Dir(s) 438,264,254,464 bytes free
-------------------------------------
there are dozens of files in the sub-folders but nothing in the main folder.
I also looked at the events viewer and found 1 error; that v. of Quicktime was newer so installation would not proceed (but I presume this refers only to QT installation, not overall).
I'm running W7 -64-bit on quad-core intel with 3 gigs RAM & 1.5 TB hard drive. Nvideo 8500GT video.
so where do I go next?
thanks, John LeBlanc

Re: VS X4 reports installation successful but doesn't instal
Welcome to the forums,
Do a search of your system, see if you can find vstudio.exe on your system. That's the main program launch file. If you locate it, double-click (or single depending on how you have your system setup), on it to see if it launches.
The Q.T. error is correct. I have several versions installed on one of my systems. Whenever I re-install an older one, I get that error, which I should, since I have a more current version installed.

You want to manually uninstall VS X4 first before attempting to reinstall the program. You can find the steps on how to manually uninstall VS X4 here: http://corel.force.com/index/articles/e ... dio-Pro-X4. Then if the problem persists, I suggest that you install using a newly created Windows Username with admin rights.

Re: VS X4 reports installation successful but doesn't instal
Abiel,
I wonder if Corel is aware of this, and trying to fix it. We've been getting several people reporting this same type of problem, and the fix seems to be forcing them to create a new account on their system so maybe it will install properly. I'd say "light a fire" under the proper people with Corel to get this fixed.

Re: VS X4 reports installation successful but doesn't instal
Hi Abiel,
As I mentioned in my first post, I did run vs_cleaner first, and then tried to install in a different profile. I also tried other steps to no avail. I even looked at the event log but there was no obvious solution there.
I agree with Ron; this problem is not unique to me and I have never seen any other software installer stating that it was successful when it was not. It seems to me that Corel should look into this more thoroughly; I've spent a fair bit of time already.
I'd hate to give up on VS X4 and go back to Pinnacle Studio but I don't know what to do next.

Yes, this was a previously reported issue and I also included this post as an additional information about the problem. The steps that I gave above is the usual work around that are given to cx that call the CS number. If I got additional information, I'll update this post.
