Burning button missing

Post by seasider »

I have VideoStudio Pro X2 (bought last Oct from Amazon didn't know it was two versions old and so had no support from Corel  )
I have come to use it in anger for the first time to create a DVD of my friends wedding. Everything works OK until I use the
"share and then create a disk" I get to the Preview stage (it previews great) and then there is a "Back" button but no "Next" button. :?

I downloaded the latest patch from Corel for this version but it made no difference, I will use the software once
or twice a year so I might be missing something obvious (apologies if I'm being dim).

Would appreicate any help you can give me my friends are relying on me for the only video of their wedding.

TIA

Karl

Welcome to the forums, :)

There's a couple of things for you to try, since VS X2 is not fully Win7 compatible. Most any program may work on operating systems that were not around when they were developed, but working without problems can not be expected. MS changes too many things with each newer release.

1. Since you have Win7 Pro, try running VS X2 under compatibility mode for VIsta or WinXP.
2. Try updating your DirectX. This is not one of the many included with automated system updates. You must manually go to MS' website, download and install it. Here's a link to where you can download it; http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/de ... px?id=8109

It is a 95 MB download, and when you have it downloaded, it will unpack all the files to a location you specify. I always create a temp folder called, for instance June 2010 DirectX. You will want to create a temp folder, because it will unpack around 150 files, most being Datacab (*.cab) files. Once unpacked, look for and run the DXSetup.exe file. Once you have it installed you can delete the temp folder with all those *.cab files.

DirectX seems to fix several of the UI problems with VS.

Thanks for the info Ron, I'm going to try the Direct X you suggest first and then the Compatibility mode.
I'll let you know how I get on.

Hi I tried both suggestions but it made no difference.
It did remind me I have an old PC with XP and Videostudio 9,
I managed to get the video burned to DVD on that (after a few tries -- buffer underruns!), so my imediate urgency is over
but If you've any other suggestions how to get the Videostudio Pro X2 working I'm willing to try.

My first thought is to uninstall and reinstall but I can't see why that would make such a subtle difference,
any thoughts?

There's one more thing to try, however you have already managed to get your disc burned... Instead of jumping straight into the burn module (Share>Create Disc), try first creating a video file from your project, Share>Create Video File>DVD>NTSC .. whatever your video file is 16:9 or 4:3. Also if you're working primarily with DVD Compliant MPEG-2 files, you could try using Same as first clip or Same as Project Settings. Using one of these settings will utilize Smart Render, thus speeding up the render time.

Once you have the video file created from your project, clear the timeline. The easiest way is to just open a new project (CTL +N). Once you have new project open, do not add anything to the timeline, go directly to Share>Create Disc to open the burn module. In the burn module, insert the video file you just created, and proceed on.

It's strange that the patch did not work since Corel brought out a patch specifically to make X2 more compatible with Win 7, and it seemed to work for everyone else...

The problem appears to be not that the Next button is not there -- but that it is off screen and inaccessible. But it should respond to a keyboard command using ALT + N. I just tried that on my own X2 and got through the various pages of the burning engine to the final burning page...

Thanks to both of you for your suggestions.

I tried the ALT+N first, as this was easiest to try and it worked. :D

I've now produced the wedding video and will give it to our friends on Saturday.

Thanks for all the suggestions, much appreciated. :)
