I have just plugd in a capture card, the Studio MovieBoard HD. The picture in my capture preview window is always with part of the bottom missing. I'm on WinXP, Asus P8P67 MOBO, Gainword GT 520 graphics card and Intel i5 3.1 GHz processor.

Your capture device should have come with software. It's usually best to use the capture software that's made to work with the hardware.
Once you have a digital audio/video file on your hard drive, you can use the software of your choice for editing & DVD authoring.

Yes I understand that. The reason for using other software is that the capture module in Studio 14 takes 30 seconds + to get activated after booting.DVDDoug wrote:Your capture device should have come with software. It's usually best to use the capture software that's made to work with the hardware.

I am confused. Are you trying to capture with VideoStudio, or the software that came with your capture device?

I need to replace the software that came with my capture device. I would like to use VideoStudio but for some reason the bottom part in the preview window is always missing.Black Lab wrote:I am confused. Are you trying to capture with VideoStudio, or the software that came with your capture device?

Why can't you use the software that came with the device?
What are you trying to capture? What format? From where?

I've check some information about Studio MovieBoard HD and it apppears that Studio MovieBoard HD is from Pinnacle and it is best to use the software that came with Studio MovieBoard HD, since Pinnacle hardware does not always play well with other software using their products.

Re: VideoStudio X3 or X4 + Studio MovieBoard HD
What I'm saying is that there is a known bug in the Pinnacle software that comes with the capture device and I would like to use other software instead. I tried to use VideoStudio but it appears that it is not fully compatible with the capture hardware.Black Lab wrote:Why can't you use the software that came with the device?

Thanks Abiel. As allways Pinnacle hardly leave any options when it comes to using their hardware. It's a nice litttle capture card though.Abiel Corel NA wrote:I've check some information about Studio MovieBoard HD and it apppears that Studio MovieBoard HD is from Pinnacle and it is best to use the software that came with Studio MovieBoard HD, since Pinnacle hardware does not always play well with other software using their products.

Well, you still don't tell us what you are trying to capture. But if it's dv-avi you could try WinDV. If it's HDV you could try HDVSplit.

I'm capturing from sat receiver or miniDV camcorder. Both composite video. I would like to capture in mpeg2 DVD compatible.

Re: VideoStudio X3 or X4 + Studio MovieBoard HD
Just my opinion, but if you're capturing from Mini-DV, and have Firewire, capturing to DV (avi) will give you better quality to start with. DV is also still one the easiest formats to edit with VS.
Does your Mini-DV camcorder have pass-through capability? If so I would use it, connect your Sat receiver to your Mini-DV camcorder, have your Mini-DV connected to your PC using Firewire. I have an old Digital-8 camcorder that I have used many times for the same thing. The DV files are quite a bit larger than MPEG-2 but again you're getting the best quality from your source to start editing, and when your finished editing, encoding to your DVD MPEG-2 you're not going to stand loosing any quality.
