Freeze Up After Editing Image

Post by WarningU2 »

Since installing X3 I edit an image ... save and then try to open another image and the program freezes ... everytime. I have to end the process and restart the application. Never had this problem with Paint Shop Pro previous versions. I'm very close to uninstalling and asking for a refund. The install and patches ran fine. Running on XP SP3 ... 3+GHz machine with 4 MB RAM ... Dual Core.

Anyone heard of this behaviour before? There is no error message. I can see the progam in task manager using 25% CPU with memory usage climbing. I've waiting several minutes and the program does not return.

X3 has a problem with memory usage. Even though your system has 4gb of RAM the program will only use up to 2gb. Although usually you'd get an out of memory error message rather than a general freeze. I've come across a third party solution, http://www.majorgeeks.com/CleanMem_d5993.html it's called CleanMem. Please keep in mind that this is one user to another and not Corel's solution or advice. That being said it's worked so well that I install it on all my computers.

You're running XP, do you have Service Pack 3 for XP installed? Corel's official stance is that it supports XP SP3 onward for PSP X3. Does the account that you're trying to work from have admin permissions? You may try it with admin permissions if not.

You may also want to update your PSP X3, since this fixes a lot of known issues of the program.

You can either use the CHECK FOR UPDATES option via the HELP menu of PSP X3 or just visit http://www.corel.com/servlet/Satellite/ ... 9872271743, to download all updates for the program.

Thank you very much for the response.

Yes I applied all patches and I am running XP Sp3.

From what I have read from Googling this issue ... Pro X3 doesn't support XP despite Corel's claim it does.

After another evening of frustration I have fully uninstalled and deleted the software and requested a refund.

I'll revert back to my old version of Paint Shop Pro from Jasc days.

Therein endeth the frustration. :)

Thanks again.
