Setting up a new stamp - transparent background

Hi, I've been trying to set up a stamp of a pawprint, so I created a .png file of the image I wanted, and set the background to transparent, but when I import it into the stamps (using 'Add Stamp', after selecting the Stamp tool), when I try to use it, the background is now white, so I get a great big white square with a pawprint in it - not what I want!
The .png file definitely has a transparent background, because I've been using that in the meantime, to place pawprints on the picture I'm making.


EDIT: I found the solution. I have to save the pawprint as a .ufo file, then it works fine! I'll leave this post here just in case anybody else has the same problem. (I should have read the help file first... sorry!)
