Video clip has an echo.

Post by phaseman »

when I watch a single clip it works great, when I add it to the time line , towards the very end, like the last word spoken it repeats itself. I look with sound mixer to see anything there, but there isn't. This probably sounds confusing.

http://youtu.be/IX2Ql6DL7kM

listen to O:26 and 2:00 you can hear like an echo.

Any thoughts what might cause this?

Cheers

Please give ALL the properties of the clip. Right click on it in the library or timeline and post the properties here.

Hi Bart

A strange affect.
Certainly you can hear the words being repeated at 2.00

During editing did you apply any transitions at the end of the clip?
It appears to end abruptly into the text, however I think you may have applied a transition? Not that that should cause any problems.
Maybe set a colour black with a short “cross-fade”

Investigate the 2 minute point within the project file to see just what edits have been applied.

Are the properties you provided the original source file or the rendered output file?

When you uploaded to You Tube, did you create a video file of the project, then upload the single file?
Or uploaded the project? Creating a file first will allow you to view the final quality.

By the way the text immediately after 2.00 should read “Muscle weighs more than fat.”

When you created your video file from your project, did you use one of the templates, Share>Create Video File> MPEG-4>MPEG-4 HD, or use the Same as First Video Clip?

I've been looking at some of the audio bit rates for very similar video files. What I'm seeing is they seem to not be consistent. The properties you provided show an audio bit rate of 128kbps, which is what the MPEG-4 HD template provides. Is this the same as what your original source clip in your project uses? You can right-click on it in the timeline or library to see what it is. If not when you create your video file, choose the Custom option at the very bottom of the menu, and in the Create Video File dialog, press the drop-down menu button for Save as Type and choose MPEG-4 file (*.mp4;*.m4v). Then press the Options button, and go to the Compression tab, change the Video Type to H.264 Main. Now in the Audio section, look at the options provided for Audio Bit Rate. See if there is one that matches or is close to the one used by your source video clip. Next go back to the General tab, and change the Frame size to the same used by your source, which I assume is 1280 x 720. Make sure the Frame Rate is the same as your source, possibly 25fps.

I'm not sure that the Audio Bit Rate being different than that of your source, will cause the echo, but might. The Audio Frequency should be the same, and the most common is 44100 Hz. If not you may want to change it too.

Edited
I grabbed your video off of YouTube and ran some tests, changing the audio bit rate and frequency to see if it would cause further echoing. No matter what I done, the 2:00 spot was the only place the echo occurred. So I would look at that place in your project to see if something at that place is causing a few frames to repeat.

Hi Trevor

Will do my best to answer your question, since im still having this issue.

During editing did you apply any transitions at the end of the clip? No, I didn't use any transitions.

It appears to end abruptly into the text, however I think you may have applied a transition? Not that that should cause any problems.
Maybe set a colour black with a short “cross-fade”
It ends abruptly because it too had a very bad echo effect, i looked in the audio file and saw nothing, my only solution was to trim the end, which causes the abrupt ending.

Investigate the 2 minute point within the project file to see just what edits have been applied.

Are the properties you provided the original source file or the rendered output file? Those are the original.

When you uploaded to You Tube, did you create a video file of the project, then upload the single file?
I used share then uploaded.( hope that makes sense)
Or uploaded the project? Creating a file first will allow you to view the final quality. I just uploaded without checking the quality.

By the way the text immediately after 2.00 should read “Muscle weighs more than fat." DOH!!!!

Hi Ron

When you created your video file from your project, did you use one of the templates, Share>Create Video File>MPEG-4>MPEG-4 HD I did Share>upload to web>you tube>mpeg-4HD

I shall do as you suggest on my next video, Thanks Ron.

One thing I might want to add, while I am making my project. If the video is in three section and choose to play one clip, this issue does not happen. However when I play project it happens then.

I appreciate the help everyone is giving me here.

Ok, just a note, I never upload directly from VS. I always create a video file from my project first, so I can check the video for errors and quality before uploading. I then go to the website, YouTube or Vimeo, and upload it from there.

When you choose to upload from a project file or jump straight into the burn module for creating DVDs, your computer must do double-duty. A video file must be created while it is also trying to do other things. I just feel that lessening the burden reduces the risk of errors.

Good Idea will do the same, gives me a chance to see any errors and like you said less burden on my system. :D

Hi

I was assuming that the problem was a Video Studio one, created by editing in some way or other.
However if there is nothing added to the timeline at 2.00 then it is certainly a little strange.

Can you play the original video file, as downloaded from the camera using a different media player (VLC Player is a good one)
Please check that the echo does not exist……………

The original file does not have an echo, I double check to make sure when this started to happen. Unfortunately I no longer have the original.

Anyway I think I will just keep searching, it could be host of reasons as to why this is happening, thanks for the input guys.
