stop motion
do you have to connect your video camera to the firewire port for the stop motion in video pro 4 to recognize it?

Re: stop motion
Welcome to the forums!
I suspect your question in itself begs the question of whether you have a mini DV standard definition or high definition HDV camera, both of which essentially must use Firewire to achieve anything worthwhile. If the camera has both Firewire and mini USB, then the latter is only ever used for transferring still photos or at best web-type video of poor quality.

Re: stop motion
Sorry -- I am now a little confused. Since your camcorder does not have a Firewire port, what is the point of your question?

Re: stop motion

Re: stop motion
I have just tried it out using my web camera which is connected to the computer via USB 2.0. And Stop Motion works fine.
Does Windows see your camera as an external drive? And in VS, when you right click in the timeline and choose Import Digital Media, can you navigate to your camera's drive? If you can, then I am not sure why VS cannot see it for the purposes of Stop Motion...

Re: stop motion
No I don't think it has to be a Firewire port. In one of the tutorials for VS X4, he uses a webcam, and I think they use USB.

Re: stop motion
.mts is an AVCHD file and is definitely supported by VS. When transferred to the computer using the Panasonic software it will use the .m2ts extension. But VS can open either.

Re: stop motion
the fact that it's a HD base camera, that is why Windows detects is an external drive and not as a capturing device. You want to contact Panasonic and ask them how to setup your camera and avoid Windows from detecting it as a external drive.
