I should have come to the forums before upgrading to see the sync problems remain.
I've tried capturing video in HQ DVD format mpeg, the result is already out of sync.
I've tried capturing to avi (DV type-1 and DV type-2), the playback is perfect, but the MF4 conversion to DVD format introduces the sync problem.
This is nothing new... as matter of fact, it's been an issue through 2 revisions/releases of MovieFactory.
Why the apathy from uLead?
Why release not 1, but 2 new revisions (plus updates) without addressing this core issue?
Has anyone gotten real and helpful suggestions from uLead support that won't require buying another bit of software to make this one work as it should?
MF4, continues the A/V out-of-sync legacy.

I'm coming from a Sony Digital 8 camcorder through a 1394 firewire connection.GeorgeW wrote:is your source dv, or are you doing an anlog-to-dv conversion?
what are your computer specs?
When you capture to DV Type-1, how long before you notice the sync problem (10 mins, 20mins, etc...)?
My computer has an AMD Athlon XP, 1.2GHz processor, 1-Gig Ram, 200Gig HD. Video card is an ATI Radeon 9800 XT.
The DV has no sync problems, neither the type-1 nor type-2. It's only when MF4 has converted it to DVD format.
Please help if you can.

When you import the dv.avi file and it's on the timeline what are the
properties of the file.
(right click -> properties).
Especially, what are the audio properties.
Have you tried exporting the video first? (New feature in MF4).
What are the project properties that the dv.avi file are rendered to.
(After installing MF4 you shouldn't install any burning patches from the
ulead website).

I've tried the 12-bit, 32kHz and 16-bit, 48kHz audio captures.
I'm not sure what else you're asking for. Unfortunately, I deleted the projects out of frustration and would have to start another session to know more.
If you could be specific about what you're wanting to know, I may remember.
I've not tried to export anything, but wouldn't that extra step be contrary to the flow of the software design? I mean, I shouldn't have to do that in order to get the program to do what it's supposed to do already... right?
I'm sorry, you're trying to help... and I'm venting... just frustrated...
As mentioned earlier, the avi files play fine, just when I tell MF4 to write the DVD folder (I don't go straight to disk, I proof it first), the sync problem is present. Also, when I go to the convert folder on the hard drive and check out the mpg file, it starts ok, but becomes out of sync more and more as it plays.
The output settings are:
MPEG files
24 Bits, 720 x 480, 29.97 fps
(DVD-NTSC), 4:3
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 7000 kbps)
Audio data rate: 256 kbps
Dolby Digital Audio, 48 KHz, 2/0(L,R)
I've also tried using LPCM audio.
I've tried constant rates... slower as well in case my computer can't handle the pace. To no avail, it's still goes out of sync as it plays.
Thanks for your efforts, everything is appreciated...

I needed to know the properties of the dv.avi file you have been
capturing and how large it is. No problem.
If your going direct from your camcorder via firewire then
You cannot choose the audio format. It's already defined on the tape.
You cannot choose any capture settings for DV except for either
DV-Type1 or DV-Type2.
If you can choose and alter the settings then your not using the correct
plugin for capturing. If you change them in the camcorder that's will only
reflect any new recorded video.
I think it's the "Ulead Direct Show" (someone correct this if I'm wrong please) that is selected for capturing DV.avi material.
In the capturing screen it should say DV not AVI. That is the difference
between the 2 codecs used to capture the video.
Make sure it is set for DV for capturing in the MF capture screen.
So whatever is on the tape is what the audio is captured at when you
originally recorded the video.
Try this, making sure the DV is selected as the format capture a small
piece about 3 minutes. Then post the properties that MF says the file is back to the forum. (Right Click -> Properties).
I should point out one bug with ulead's capturing process.
Let the tape roll for about 5 seconds so the data stream is stable.
Then hit the capture icon.
If you start from the absolute beginning of the tape the software reads the
audio information incorrectly and writes it to the file.
This happens because the camcorder is sending the default settings and
not the actual settings on the tape yet.
So, make sure to start into the tape a little ways and have the stream
flowing before capturing.
After capturing right click on the video and note the properties.
The audio format should be 12bit 32khz or 16bit 48khz.
It shouldn't be 16bit 32khz or 12bit 48khz, that can't be, but sometimes
ulead sees that if you've started from the absolute beginning of the tape.
Also, do not use automatic scene detection when capturing.

I have never try capturing in DV mode - the space used is too much for me even though I can afford to. I prefer to capture into MPEG2 but I am using Pinnacle Studio 8 & then import & author in MF4. So far I do not experience any out-of-sync problems.
