Using VS Pro X4, wide screen keeps coming on.
My project is NOT wide-screen. So I go to Settings and undo wide-screen. Everything is now fine. But, the next time I start up VS Pro X4, I find it has reset itself to wide-screen. Must I undo this each time I start up. I can't find anything in preferences that will keep it at my project setting. Regards, Mike

Yep, if you want 4:3 then you must either manually de-select Widescreen from the settings menu, or inserting the first video clip into the Main video track. That is provided you have the option checked in Preferences to Show message when inserting first.... checked, and that will only work on video files that are of the format type that VS accepts as Project Settings, like MPEG-2 or DV AVI. In the past I've found that audio must also be present for this to work.

This is yet more new and annoying behavior with X4. Care to try and divine what the person who thought this was a good idea was thinking when they made the decision to default to widescreen on every new project? IMO it was yet another ill thought out "little" thing that people here keep saying don't matter. But they do. You get enough of it and your software becomes "third world". Taking away flexibility of preferences is almost never a good idea. Adding flexibility of preferences is almost always a good idea. Preferences that must be toggled to be changed are almost always the right idea. What's really silly is it used to be good and now it's been changed to bad and for what? Anyone?Ron P. wrote:Yep, if you want 4:3 then you must either manually de-select Widescreen from the settings menu, or inserting the first video clip into the Main video track. Re: Using VS Pro X4, wide screen keeps coming on.
Automatic "Widescreen" is not the only one, what disturbs me - but that only are two clicks.
What for me is a really mess, that you cannot override the videoformat in the project settings, when VS means to know the right one.
In addition, i would prefer to decide byself, if square oder non-square pixels are to render.
When i have that problem (and that happens often with recorded TV), i have to render that file with another program, where i can override the format.

Thank you John! You said exactly what I wanted to say... but, just didn't know how to say it. Regards, Mike
