X4 Won't Start
Just upgraded from X3 to X4 & have found that X4 won't start -- I get an immediate Windows error: "Corel VideoPro has stopped working." I tried running as administrator with the same result. Suggestions?
Installation seemed to go fine & reboot went fine . . . the program just won't start (although X3 continues to run as normal).
Let's see . . . Vista Ultimate 32-bit, 4 GB RAM, 2.67 GHz Intel Core2 Quad Q6700, 8-10 TB hard drive space, NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX graphics card.
TIA

Re: X4 Won't Start
Try looking in the Windows Event Viewer to see if it might give you some idea why. Right-click on the Computer icon on your desktop, select Manage. In the Computer Management dialog, look in the left pane for Event Viewer. You will need to click on the + to expand it. Then select Windows Logs, Application, and look for the Warning or Errors listed in the right pane. There should be some listed for VS X4.

Re: X4 Won't Start
You may want to perform a clean reinstallation. First manually uninstall VS X4 by following these steps. http://corel.force.com/index/articles/e ... dio-Pro-X4
Then redownload a new installer to install a new copy of the program.

Re: X4 Won't Start
Thanks for the response -- I appreciate it. I'll try your suggestions later tonight, but I confess that I'm getting a little worried.
Since today was Monday, I called tech support. The kernel32 error code apparently has to do with Windows, and the suggestion was to uninstall DVD MovieFactory 6+, MovieFactory 7 Pro, and VideoStudio X3 (all of which were working fine). Then, uninstall VideoStudio X4 Pro using the Cleanup Tool. And then reinstall X4 Pro.
All of which I did (after having to dig out an old USB keyboard because the tech support dude used msconfig to disable everything except my security software & UPS, so my BT keyboard wasn't working to even let me logon after the first reboot). VS X4 Pro still won't launch. <sigh>
However, since I didn't clean up the temp files or empty the Recycle bin (per your link), nor did I redownload the installer, I'll try again -- I'm getting pretty desperate at this point.
Is there any reason to think that I might be successful if I use start Windows in Safe Mode for the install? It seems to me I recall back in the Dark Ages (maybe Windows 95), there was a workaround for programs that wouldn't launch after installation to install in Safe Mode. Maybe that's outdated info now?
I'm just starting to feel a sense of dread now -- everything else about my computer is working just fine, so I don't understand what's up with X4 on this computer. I do a clean reinstall of the OS every 6-9 months or so -- the last time was just in March.
TIA.

Re: X4 Won't Start
Arrrrgh!!!!
After spending way too much time unsuccessfully trying to get VS X4 to successfully launch (including uninstalling working MF 6 Plus, MF 7 Pro, VS X3, then using the cleaner tool to uninstall X4, disabling almost all non-MS startup items & services in all possible combinations, clean installs of VS X4 too many times to count, etc.) after apparently successful installation, I found success.
I Googled (without the quotes) "Corel VideoStudio Pro X4 kernel32 error" and found this: http://forum.videohelp.com/threads/3340 ... ed-working
With the exception of the OS Version & Locale ID, my "problem signature" (below) seems to be identical to that at the above link.

Sooo, I tried the solution of disabling DEP for vstudio.exe, and I was able to get VS Pro X4 to launch. I should be thrilled, right?
Except I have no clue what DEP is except that it's supposed to protect my computer, so why do I need to turn it off for VS X4 to successfully launch? I read the links in Vista's "Help & Support," but it's Greek to me. As much as I liked VS X3, I'm not interested in putting my computer "at risk" by having to turn off DEP for X4.
Can anyone explain to me in dummy language why disabling DEP for vstudio.exe is required to allow VS X4 to launch?
TIA.

Re: X4 Won't Start
D.E.P. is Data Execution Prevention, and is the Operating System deciding on what you can and can not launch. It's a security feature, and is way over-rated. When you tried to launch VS X4, your OS made the decision that it might pose some security risk to your system, so it immediately slams it closed. D.E.P. used to at least provide you with notice that it had just shutdown a program.
Excluding VS X4 from DEP is not placing your system in jepordy, you're letting your computer know that you can make the decision on what program you want to open and which ones you don't..

Re: X4 Won't Start
Thanks for the response, Ron. I'm with you: I've rarely seen DEP shut down programs, but it always gave me an error message telling me it was related to DEP & telling me how to reenable (or disable -- I can't remember) it for the program. And, I don't recall it ever preventing a program from launching -- in my case, it would rarely cause a running program to shut down, but the program would always subsequently restart fine, both with & without DEP. So, for me, it was always one of these "the stars must have been aligned perfectly at that particular moment that one & only time" to trigger it, and reenabling DEP for whatever program it had disabled itself from never caused a problem.
Not so for VS X4 on my system -- the program wouldn't even launch.
Now that I can launch VS X4, I'm really looking forward to getting to know it when I've got some play time this coming weekend!

Re: X4 Won't Start
After I successfully installed Corel VideoStudio Pro X6, I opened the program and immediately got a message saying "Corel VideoStudio Pro has stopped working." I read this topic and other topics from other forums and also YouTube videos, and all suggested disabled Data Execution Prevention (D.E.P.) for the desired program, which is VideoStudio in my case. I learned how to disable DEP altogether (set its state to 0) on the following sites:
http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/12077 ... sable.html
http://www.mydigitallife.info/how-to-ve ... -in-vista/
I found command prompt (cmd) and right-clicked to open it as an administrator, and used the instructions to set DEP to AlwaysOff.
However, when I tried to run Corel VideoStudio Pro X6, it immediately gave me the same message, "Corel VideoStudio Pro has stopped working." So, next I went searching online for solutions and discovered that you can search for the program "Event Viewer" and you'll find it on your Windows computer (or you can search for "View Event Logs"). Upon opening Event Viewer, look at the left panel/field and click on "Windows Logs," then click on "Application." You will see in the middle panel/field a list of events, with the most recent listed first. If you recently tried opening VideoStudio and got an error message, then that message will be listed near the top of the middle panel with an exclamation point icon. You can then click on that event and learn additional information about what caused the problem. In my case, here is the information I saw:
Faulting application name: vstudio.exe, version: 16.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x50dc5183

From this information, I was able to see that the Faulting Module Name was nvdxgiwrap.dll. I entered the faulting module name into the Windows search bar, found it, and right clicked to choose to "Open File Location." I discovered what I should have realized from the error log message, that the problem was with my NVIDIA graphics driver. I got onto the Internet onto the NVIDIA website and used their scanning feature to discover which of their graphics drivers they recommended, and then downloaded and installed that driver.
Next time I opened Corel VideoStudio Pro X6, it worked! Yay! Now I'll get to start using VideoStudio! Hopefully no more errors once I start to use it more!
