EXIF

Post by ColinG »

I open a jpeg in Windows Explorer or Windows Live Photo Gallery and the EXIF data is visible. I open same pic in PSPro Organizer and there is no EXIF data. Why is this please?

Many thanks

Just to double check, you're talking about the EXIF table under the Advanced Info heading is not being filled properly? Or are you asking why the General Info isn't automatically set from the EXIF information?

Both. In Windows Photo Gallery all the info is there, date taken, aperture etc. etc. In PSP there is nothing other than the file name. I also note that where the EXIF is present it is not retained following editing and saving.

Well, I know the General Info is not filled in automatically. You set that yourself for their database. But the EXIF information for me is readily visible if I expand the "Advanced Info" area. And it matches exactly with what I see in Picasa, Image Properties in Windows Explorere, and Windows Live Gallery. So not sure what's going on with your images.

As for editing and retaining EXIF information. Make sure "Save Exif" option is checked for the format you're saving in. For "SaveAs" there is an "Options" button at the bottom of the dialog which allows you to set specifics like that.

Strange, I have many photos that show the EXIF in Windows Explorer/Gallery but not in PSP. Re saving the EXIF after editing the photo, I can see how to set this option in the Save As dialogue. Is there a way to set it in the Save dialogue?

Thanks

If the save dialog is popping up it should have the same options. Usually just hitting Save saves over the old file with all of the same settings. And in all of my tests the EXIF information was preserved nicely.

So I have to ask, have you installed all of the patches for X3?

Ah patches! Do they not come down via automatic update? If not then I have not been proactive in this respect :)

PSP will usually tell you if there are patches to be downloaded but they don't download and install automatically....well they don't install automatically anyway.

But if you have not knowing done so I suggest either selecting 'Update" from the help menu or downloading the patches manually from the website.

It would make sense that it's about the patches, though sometimes its hard to tell with X3, because there was a lot of fuss about problems with EXIF information before the first and second patches were installed.

Done, but no change to the behaviour. Still if I edit a photo and then save it the EXIF is lost.

Can you check the version number of your PSP X3 by going to HELP > ABOUT.. then tell us that complete version number?

Also is the same thing happens when you are on FULL EDIT mode then IMAGE > IMAGE INFORMATION > EXIF INFORMATION tab? Exif information are not listed there?

I take it that this must be PSPro bug? On the bais that I cam see the Exif in Lightroom, I expect to be able to see it in Elements to which I will almost certainly upgrade in due course. This is such a shame as I like PSP but if developers insist on adding bits to it (likie the organizer) they should really make sure it is fit for purpose.

I still suggest waiting on X4 before threatening to move to Elements for this one problem. I honestly have not seen anyone with this problem since X3 was released so the fact that you are experiencing it even with all of the patches is a bit odd. Have you tried contacting support directly?
