2 questions on VSX4
Hello!
I just installed VS4 and have 2 questions:
1. I still have VS2 and 3 on my computer. I thought upgrades would override the original versions but apparently this hasn't happened. If I uninstall either version 2 or 3 will version 4 still work? Do I have to keep all versions on my computer? They're quite large.
2. I have a lot of projects I made in version 2, and only 1 in version 3. I was really surprised when version 3 would not open my projects from version 2, and am very disappointed that version 4 will not open any projects made with either previous version, as well. I keep getting a message saying that the file is already in use, on attempting to open older versions. Is there any way to fix this?
Thanks very much!

Hi
first of all installing a new version of Video Studio does not update the older version.
You can install many versions of Video Studio, indeed many users have several versions installed.
However you can only open one version at a time.
You should be able to open older VSP project files using a newer Video Studio.
Backward compatibility is possible but this is not your issue.
As you are getting errors “the file is already in use” then you certainly have a problem with your installation.
You ask a way to fix this, I would uninstall all Video Studio programs, Re-Install the programs you wish to use, install X4.
Your project files should work ok with the newer version.
I am sure this has been posted before (file already in use), a search of the forum may prove fruitful, others on the forum may be able to help.

Re: 2 questions on VSX4
Thanks Trevor, I appreciate your help! I probably didn't conduct the right search so I'll try again. I had VS2 on my system for a long time, then installed VS3 and got the same error message. Then when I installed VS4 I was hoping things would be different, but they're not. I'm wondering if it is a Win7 issue. I'll check more threads. Thanks!

Re: 2 questions on VSX4
No, it's not a Win 7 issue. I too have X2, X3 and X4 installed on one of my Win 7 Home Premium computers, with no problems opening in later versions projects made in earlier versions.

Re: 2 questions on VSX4
Same here! I always keep at least two versions on my computer at the same time. I keep the version before the latest one just until I get use to the newer version in case I need to do a quick project. I have never had that error nor any problems housing more than one version of the software.

You can keep multiple version of Videostudio program on your computer, since their installation are on separate folder and uninstall the old version will not affect the newer one and vice versa.phnxrsngbr wrote:1. If a file is from newer version and you want to open it on old version, make sure you save it as old version of videostudio by going to FILE > SAVE AS... > then change the SAVE AS TYPE to what version of old VS you are using you can save as far as VS X2.2. Maybe or not.trevor andrew wrote:Hi

I sometimes run into that problem, too on files what VS X4 has touched and mostly there exist an automatic placed link in VS X4 to that file.
Where i can disable that automatic linking to the VS X4 library?

Re: 2 questions on VSX4
I got this error before. I found that the .vsp file had been marked read only. This can happen, I think, when a version of VS stops abnormally; apparently the .vsp file is left with a read only attribute. To remove this read only attribute, Click on the file name in Windows Explorer, right-click to get menu and select Properties, and then un-tick the Read only attribute.... Al

Re: 2 questions on VSX4
Do the different versions share files like DLL files?

Re: 2 questions on VSX4
I think they do. There are a couple of folders found under C:\Program Files\Common Files, for Corel and Ulead Systems.
