Extract audio from video clip and export audio to Audacity

Post by Mart »

I have recently upgraded my old VideoStudio 12.00 to VideoStudio Pro X4 and have only just started using the program again after a couple of years of absence so I am still on a learning curve.

My question is this: Can I extract the audio from a video clip and if so how and how can I convert it, if neccessary into an Audio Interchange File Format, so that I can export it to a program such as Audacity for removing background wind noise before importing the Audio back into the videoStudio project.

I have tried using all the audio filter functions in VS to remove the background noise, to no avail.

Hi Martyn

Share Create Sound File will create a Wav file of the entire project.
If you wish for individual files for each video file start a new project and add the single video clip.

Hello Trevor,
Many thanks for your prompt reply. I never thought of creating a new project with only one clip - that is obviously the way to do it although it will be a bit tedious as I have a lot of clips with wind noise. Again thank you very much for the advice which I will act upon. Martyn

Hi

You may be best to complete the video editing, cutting the clips to size.
Then create a sound file. You don’t want to cut video after creating the sound file.

It may be best to create one of the entire project, this will allow you to sync’ easily.
Really depends on how long the project is?

Thanks again Trevor. I am going to try with a single clip first of all to see if indeed I can remove the offending noise with Audacity. If that is successful then I will try it with the entire video after editing is finished as you suggest. Cheers, Martyn

These posts have been very helpful - thanks! The high pass filter applied to the VSPX4 project really works using the default filter characteristics for the HPF in Audacity. Awesome!

I am a relative newcomer to VSP so hopefully this is not a stupid question ..

My problem comes after dragging the exported .WAV file from Audacity back into my VSPX4 project. How do you mute ALL the other tracks, so only the imported filtered audio is heard - without doing each clip individually?

Thanks
Noel

Hi Noel, welcome to the forums, :)

Simply put, you can't. :( You must mute each clip separately. Big PITA if you have a lot of them... ;)
