I am trying out my new cam which can do video in 24p (23.something), and I can edit the clips, all ok. There are just two things I cannot do: Make a still (it's really the 24p material, I used a clip in 60i and stills worked), and changing the time/frame counter to 24 frames. No matter what I do, it will always stay there.
I did not find any solutions in the forum, but maybe someone knows...?
Thanks

Are you trying to make a still in your camera ?? - - in which case what camera are you using.
OR are you trying to create a still in VideoStudio - - in which case which version are you using because the procedure is slightly differenr between versions.

Re: No stills on 24p material
It would be helpful to know what camera you're using. Also are you recording 24p or 24pA? Is the 3:2 pull-down being used? It's recommended that the 3:2 pull-down be removed prior to editing. If you're not aware of what the pull-down is, the video is recorded with 3 frames of progressive (full frames) followed by 2-frames of interlaced. So 2 out of every 5 frames will be interlaced. This may be why you're having problems with getting a "screenshot". If you're editing NTSC (29.97) then it is imperative the 3:2 pull-down be removed. I'm not sure VS can do a decent job of removing it though. It generally will take a high-end editor like FCP..

Re: No stills on 24p material
Just to continue to what BrianCee..
If you trying to create a still in VideoStudio.. here are the steps for version X3 and X4.
VideoStudio Pro X3
To capture photos
1. Select Settings: Preferences - Capture. Choose Bitmap or JPEG as the Snapshot format.
If you selected JPEG, also set the Snapshot quality. Click Ok.
2. Select a video clip in your project.
3. Drag the Scrubber to the frame you want to capture.
4. Switch to the Photo folder in the Library. The folder can be the default folder path or the one you created.
5. Select Edit: Take a Snapshot. The photo snapshot is automatically added in the Library and saved to your working folder.
VideoStudio Pro X4
To capture photos
1. Select Settings > Preferences > Capture.
Choose Bitmap or JPEG as the Snapshot format.
If you selected JPEG, set the Snapshot quality.
2. Click OK.
3. Select a video clip in your project.
4. Drag the Scrubber to the frame you want to capture.

Re: No stills on 24p material
Thanks for the suggestions, I think I was not really clear on what I meant: The screenshot button is disabled when I have a video clip in 24P format from my Sony CX560. It is an mts file.
I experienced the following: I had two clips in the project, one with 29.x fps, the other with the 23.x (why do they use those odd numbers for a video standard?). As long as I move in the first ("normal") clip, I can make screenshots as much as I want - as soon as I move to the second clip, the screenshot button is disabled and I can't click on it.
Has anyone else had that situation?

Re: No stills on 24p material
Well I haven't as I don't have any 24p video.
24fps is what film is shot at, and is considered to have the highest resolution of any media format. A lot of the newer cameras have this capability to record at 24p. It by no means has made it as a real standard for video, and so the software developers like Corel, have not caught up with it yet.(why do they use those odd numbers for a video standard?

Re: No stills on 24p material
As for why there is the weird 29.97 fps number, here is a crystal clear answer from Wikipedia (NOT!!):
It happened when colour was added to the B&W TV standard for NTSC.
"Color information was added to the black-and-white image by adding a color subcarrier of 4.5 × 455/572 MHz (approximately 3.58 MHz) to the video signal. In order to minimize interference between the chrominance signal and FM sound carrier, the addition of the color subcarrier also required a slight reduction of the frame rate from 30 frames per second to 30/1.001 (very close to 29.97) frames per second"
