x3 vidoe splitting help. my head hurts...

Post by blulite »

hi guys and gals, i have a question regarding video splitting and exporting. let me explain:

i ripped a dvd containing several music video tracks and converted the vob files to .avi so i can use them with my dj software.

the problem i have is i need to split the avi into smaller sections to seperate the tracks.

i thought i would be able to insert split markers and export the project into seperate split tracks.

however, after inserting the split markers i find there is no way to export the project into seperate split files.

can someone please tell me if the splitting and exporting of files in parts is possible?

hope my explaination is clear enough, its late and the video splitting has me beaten..

thanks, john

Welcome to the forums!

You have to physically split your file into the individual songs. With the whole video in the timeline, move to the end of song 1, then use the scissors icon to the bottom right of the preview screen and cut the video. Then highlight the remainder and delete it. Then save the first song with a new project name (e.g. Song001.vsp). Then you can actually convert that new project into an actual video: Share > Create Video File > Same As First Clip.

Then close that project and reopen the original one -- it will all still be there. Make a cut at the first ending and delete that first song, then move to the end of the second song. Make another cut and again remove all that follows its. Save as a new project: Song002. And proceed as above for the rest.

thanks, that i figured, i was hoping there was a way to do it without saving each track individuallly. its a bit too time consuming. but if thats the only way then i may have to just stick with it.

it would be nice to see a one click split export. having the ability to insert split markers then export each section automaticallywould be a huge advantage.

Actually there is another way you can do it - by using the Preview Range.

While in Project Mode, set your Mark In and Mark Out points. Doing so will put a red line above the timeline, denoting the preview range. Now when you go to Share>Create Video File, when the dialog box opens click on the Options button and choose Preview Range. Now only the part with the red line above it will be rendered to a new video file. Repeat the process as many times as you need.

It's still not "one click split export", but a little quicker than the alternative.

thanks guys, your help has been great, although i believe i have found a really easy way to do this compared to some of the suggestions. heres what i found and have decided to use. for now..

once the video file is split into seperate tracks/sections. drag each section into the video library. clear the timeline. then drag one section at a time back onto the timeline. thus giving you a single clip to work with.

if you then share/export by doing, create video file > same as project settings, you can enter the filename and export within a shorter period of time. im curently exporting the tracks within 90 seconds each. some are taking 20 -30 seconds.

i thought i should share this as it seems to be the quickest way ive used so far.

the method described by black lab worked quite well too but i found i wasnt having much luck with the mark in and mark out usage. it didnt quite work for me as a person. but it is a good method. i will try it again on the next project as is seems more usefull to a new project that has yet to be split.
