I just downloaded Corel Video Studio Pro X4 as a trial.
It works okay when I import most formats of video, but when I try to import any MP4 from my FLIP Ultra HD, then try to play it, the program locks then crashes. This happens 100% of the time. I tried installing SP1. It installed without a problem, but the error persists.
It is not an issue of corruption. WMP plays the files without incident and Windows Live Movie Maker will import and edit these files without problem. Likewise for Windows Movie Maker on another system using Vista.
Incidentally, Corel itself will recognize and convert these same MP4's to MOV without a problem. And it will play old MP4's from my previous non-HD Flip without a problem.

Hi
and welcome to the forums
I don’t own a FLIP Ultra HD but there have been a few posts regarding FLIP Ultra HD maybe a search of the forum will prove successful.
I have however been able to download some samples from Vimeo which seems to work ok on my version.
Quicktime.
There have been some issues and reverting to an earlier version seems to cure problems for some users.
There is a post at the top of this forum
I am running QT version 7.5.5 which was provided by the Video Studio X4 installation.
Its probably worth trying the earlier versions, if they don’t improve things you can always revert to the latest

Please have a look at this link which I recently made into a sticky at the top of this forum. It applies to a different brand camera (I think) though the format is still the same. Maybe the posted fix will work for you too. Let us know if it does...

Re: Flip Ultra MP4 files crashes VSPro X4
Hi, Ken, thanks for looking.
I've figured out the issue and a workaround. It appears to be a new issue to these boards.
I cannot get the main Corel timeline board to work with videos imported from the UltraHD. When I try to see them on the viewer, the program locks and then Windows 7 forces a shutdown.
The problem turns out to be the Flip itself. As long as the file is part of the Flip structure (on the camera or in its directory), it contains information that VideoStudio cannot handle and which causes it to crash.
The workaround is to use the Flip program to "export" the clips to some folder of your choice. The export version of the program can now be used by VideoStudio.
Why this is the way it is, I don't know. Windows Movie Maker and Live Movie Maker have no problem with the Flip clip direct from the Flip database. At least the workaround provices a solution.

Just in case this is a codec issue, you may want to download and update the codecs on your computer.
Here are some of the codecs that you may want to install.

DivX: http://www.divx.com/en/software/divx-plus/codec-pack
XviD: http://downloads.xvid.org/downloads/xvidcore-1.3.1.zip
