VS Pro X4 / Editing Titles
I'm moving over from Pinnacle Studio 15, and so far I like what I'm seeing with VS. The preview pane is MUCH better for editing Hi Def video than what Pinnacle provides, so I may be a convert. But, in Pinnacle, it is easy to create a title, and change the background using stock photos, or your own photos for that matter. I'm having difficulty editing the titles in VS. Is there a way to change the background?

Welcome to the forums!
Not sure if I am reading your question right. But of course you can create your own titles with your own background. You can either cut the video at the point where you want to insert the background photo, and insert it; adjust the duration you want it on screen (by selecting the photo in the timeline, then dragging the heavy yellow bar at its right out to the right); then insert your title over it. Or you could insert the background photo into one of the overlay tracks and adjust its size if you want to fill the screen. It will, of course, obscure the video below it. Then insert and adjust your title as described above.
Or are you talking about the stock video titles provided in the samples?

Re: VS Pro X4 / Editing Titles
Ken,
Thanks for the help. I used one of the overlay tracks and was able to achieve what I wanted. I think I'm really going to like this program once I'm used to it, and am able to "forget" the Pinnacle way! I had a little problem getting SmartSound to work the way I wanted, but did manage to figure it out. Nice to know there are knowledgeable, helpful people on this forum!
