Using VS Pro X2 on a 2.67GHz i5 with 4GB of memory running Windows 7 Home Premium.
Had lots of problems creating this project as during rendering to DVD or to a file it would get about 80% and then get the dreaded "Program not responding" message from Windows 7 Home Premium. I solved that problem by reducing the size of the many images that I had in the project and successfully rendered to an mpg file which has sound ok.
Now when I try to render to a DVD, at the preview stage there is no sound, but there was sound before I reduced the size of the images in the project.
Any ideas?
Jim

Re: VS Pro X2 No sound when creating a DVD
Welcome to the forums Jim,
Have a ton of ideas, however I don't know which ones may or may not work for you..
Can you give us a little more information, as to where the sound comes from, what format the sound is? VS X2 can be a little stubborn to run on Win7, so it could be just throwing a fit, the sound not being read now, later it could be something else.
Have you checked your Sound Mixer in Win7 to make sure it somehow didn't get muted? MP3s, especially those using the Lame codec are disliked by VS, so if your sound is MP3, then you might try converting them to WAV before using them in VS.

Re: VS Pro X2 No sound when creating a DVD
Ron,
I just checked what was happening in more detail and the sound that's missing is from the initial couple of seconds where I added one of the inbuilt sounds to a jpg picture before the actual video starts to run. The sound is there on the rest of the video and also the song that I added over the final static images at the end of the video. Both sounds were added to the "music" track in the timeline view.
It's just that bit at the beginning and it's one of Corel's own sound bites that came with the product.

Which one of the "sound bites" is not being heard? I can do some testing on my end to see if I can replicate the problem. Does the sound file play ok on its own?

Re: VS Pro X2 No sound when creating a DVD
Ron,
It's A22.mpa (cheering), however I still have the original problem when I try to output to DVD. I can output to a wmv file ok but not to DVD.
The A22.mpa plays ok on it's own and now that I've moved it from the music track to the voice track it works in the preview.

Re: VS Pro X2 No sound when creating a DVD
Have you applied the Win7 patch for VS X2? If not, you can get it HERE
Since you seem to be having this problem at about the same place, 80%, set up a Preview Range in your project. In Project mode, go to about the middle and then press the Mark-In icon or F3 on your keyboard. You should see the red line going through the timeline scale. Now go to Share the step, and if you have been using one of the templates, try going the Custom route, Share>Create Video File>Custom. Then choose MPEG as the file type, press the Options button. Now go to the Compression tab, select MPEG-2 (not NTSC or PAL, DVD). Set the Video Data Rate to around 8000kbps, the audio compression will be MPEG-2 by default and you can not change it. Next go back to the General tab, and make sure the Frame size is the same as your project's and that it is a DVD spec size (720 x 480 for NTSC), (720 x 576 for PAL), and you have the correct aspect ratio for your project. Go back to the Corel VS tab, and click on the radial button beside Preview Range. Click OK, provide a name for your file, and try to render it.
You can repeat the above, setting the preview range, cutting down the project size to be rendered, and if your video file is corrupt, it should crash until you have removed the part that is corrupt. Long process but about the only way to find out.
One other thing since you have no problems creating a WMV file, the MPEG codec for VS may be corrupt. Can you render any other project, a short sample project to MPEG-2? If not that would be a strong indicator of the codec being corrupt......
I need to do some more research, to make sure I tell you the correct folder. I know where it's found on WinXP, but not sure yet on Vista or Win7. Check back in a little while..

Ron,
The problem happens after the video section finishes and during the photos that are displayed against a song.
I'll try your suggestions and get back to you.
Thanks again .

Have you tried converting the audio to WAV? Although you are not working with the troublesome MP3, converting to WAV is often a fix for sound problems.

Re: VS Pro X2 No sound when creating a DVD
The initial sound bite at the beginning is now an mp3 file instead of mpa and sound is now present at all stages of the project.
This is supposed to be a DVD of my daughter & son-in-law's silver wedding anniversary garden party which I wanted to give them.To clarify, what I have is the following:-
.jpg with cheering and title over the top
Output from my camcorder transferred to DVD and imported into VideoStudio.
Lots of .jpgs with my grandson's song playing along with it.
Ending with "The End"
I can now produce an mpg without any problems but could't output to a DVD or to an iso file from VS Editor without the same "Program not responding" message. Total length is 27 minutes and 18 seconds, the .mpg file is 1.31Gbyte and the vsp file is 1.03Mbyte.
I took a working mpg and ran it through the Movie Wizard and created an iso first and then went straight on to creating a DVD and it worked this time.
Very strange but it's sorted now and thanks for all the help
Thanks
