Can I edit a slideshow DvD?

Post by deeboed »

Using MF6 I am wondering if it is possible to rip a dvd slideshow(made with mf6) to add more pictures to it. I have the original mf project but when I open it, it freezes at 59% and mf has to close. If this can be done if anyone can give me or point me in the direction of a quick howto that would be great. Thanks in advance for your help.

Welcome to the forums, :)

You can insert your DVD video just like any other. I think your additional slideshow will be added as another title (clip). Where is the project file used to create the original located? Did you back it up to a CD/DVD or HDD? Generally if the program crashes at about the same place each time, it is due to what's at that position. It could be a sound file (MP3s using Lame codec causes problems), a transition, filter or some effect.

If your project file is located on a CD or DVD, have you tried copying that to your HDD? Since project files are nothing more than text-like instructions, you need to make sure that ALL clips used in the project are where they were when you created it, OR, can be easily re-linked. Was the original project created with DVDMF 6 running on Win7 or were you using a different OS?

What I'm trying to do is find someway to get the project file to open for you, since that is the best method for adding on to.

The original project is on my harddrive. I downloaded the trial of MF7 and when i opened the project it asked me for missing files (assumed thats what stopped mf6 from opening it) some of the files used in the original i nolonger have (had to format my HDD) when i choose to ignore it opens in MF7 but its empty. If i choose relink and just link it to some random file it opens but not all of the slideshows are there(there were 4 but only shows 3). I thought saving the project saved everything but i see now it doesnt. So im back to my orginal question and i dont think its possible. Can i take a finished slideshow dvd and rip it so i can see the individual slideshows so i can add pictures to them?

Like I stated earlier, you would insert the slideshow from your DVD as a video. Press the Disc icon (Insert DVD-Video), and if you have the DVD in your drive, it should show it in the next dialog. You can also copy the disc to your HDD, in which case you would navigate to the VIDEO_TS folder.

This will place the slideshow as a title (clip), then you can choose to Add Slideshow to your project, and add all the photos, which will be a separate title. You can't join them though. So on a DVD produced they will be separate titles in the menu. The slideshow on your DVD is not separate photos, it is a video, so even in a video editing program, like VS, you would need to cut the video clip if you wanted to add photos in between existing ones, or add them to the end. Then you would render another video file.

Thats what i thought. Thanks for the input Ron.

The issue im having now is that I downloaded the trial version of mf7 pro and i was able to open my original project and relink to the missing files. I have updated all of the photos and files that i wanted but of course the trial version doesnt have all of the features unlocked that are in my mf6+. For some reason i still cant open the updated project in my mf6+ it freeezes at 59%. I even tried removing the background music in my slideshows but still no luck. It opens in mf7 fine but wont open in my mf6+ and i dont have the money to pay for the upgrade right now. Is there an update that allows mf6 to give my the relink option or is there anything i can do to my project to allow it to open in mf6+?

Have you installed all the patches for DVD MF6? If not you can get them from the following link:
http://www.corel.com/servlet/Satellite/ ... 7584963771

Unless you had problems installing DVDMF6, DO NOT install the HotFix.. The hotfix deals only with install problems related to AVControl SDK.
