Thanks for all the experiences. My take: PPE4 is NOT for Win7-64. I have been going around with support for a while on this.
I tried all the things they recommended, even created a new account AND also tried using the high-level pure administrator account, and with all the same results of failing at the splash screen with an access violation.
I tried using the compatibility installs and tried Windows XP (SP2), Windows XP (SP3), Vista, Vista (SP1), Vista (SP2, Win7, and Win7 (SP1). All installs gave the same error and NEVER got beyond the splash screen. Since it will not launch, I cannot even try to disable the splash screen in preferences like PSP allows. (I have had programs in the past that would lock on the splash screen, so I always disable it out of habit)
Subsequent contact with Microsoft automated support indicated the PPE4 is apparently NOT compatible with Windows 7 Professional 64 bit OS.
I have even copied the PPE4 files from the CD and tried installing from the HDD and a thumb drive. The install is successful, with no error messages, but the launch of the actual application still fails.
All drivers are current.
These replys, however gave me an idea to try it with only 6MB of RAM. Maybe that will help. If so, I will post an update, however removing RAM to use a program is a bit much.
Fortunately, PPE4 was a bonus application (I was not aware it was on the CD) and is not a critical need, but I would have liked to try it out. A bit disappointing as Win7 Pro 64 is almost 2 years old and you would think the bugs should be out.
PSP X3 works great. I am eager to try the HDR features.
