I downloaded the trial version of Paint Shop Pro X3 and I would like to purchase it but I'm having problems with the main reason I need it. I need to open CDR files (read only is fine) but when I try to do that the Corel Draw Graphics Import Filter opens and loads almost until the end but the file never opens. Customer support suggested that I contact tech support via email, which I have done but I was wondering if anyone here had any suggestions?

Re: CDRs won't open in PSPx3
Do you know which version of Corel Draw the files were designed for? The biggest problem with CDR is that PSP can only open some of the earlier versions, and even those not very well. So it's possible the file isn't loading because it's from a far more recent, or older, version that PSP just does not properly support.
You would think since they were both owned by Corel that Corel would try it's hardest to make sure all of its formats could be opened as easily as possible between their software applications (and different code bases don't count as an excuse here) but that has not been the case.
If Tech support is of use then awesome. If not I would suggest getting Corel Draw (just the trial) and doing a conversion to a format that PSP can read. I believe that version 9 of the format works as does version 7....tell you what we had a big discussion on CDR importing for PSP not too long ago. I will edit this post when I find that topic so you can link to it.
EDIT: Here's the discussion I mentioned

We also made the suggestion that an export to WMF is a good way for PSP to bring in vector based formats like the one found in CDR files.

Hello Candace,
If you are using any version of Corel Draw higher than version 9, you may want to save the CDR file as version 9 via the SAVE AS.. feature of Corel Draw. From there you can open the CDR file on PaintShop Photo Pro X3. Like what Levi mention, it will not be a pretty picture.

Re: CDRs won't open in PSPx3
Thanks for the replies. All of my CDR files are from CorelDraw 8 and I literally have hundreds of them. We own a small recording studio and all of our older graphics for cds are done in CD8. Until recently CD8 was working well enough for me to at least open a file and export it as a jpeg, which I then used in Photoshop Elements. Now CD8 won't even open. I did download the trial of the newest corel draw but I can't afford to buy that right now. I was really hoping that PSPx3 would work for me to open these CDRs as needed because it's within my budget.

Re: CDRs won't open in PSPx3
This File - Open and choose "CDR" offer in PSPP is not working since version XI. It was forgotten to remove it in X3 (because no-one asked for it). It will be removed in all coming versions of PSPP.
I work for the Corel UK Support. I will not give technical support through this forum and my answer is only related to this thread.
