Error when trying to scan a document

Post by Sebbol »

Hi,

I'm trying to scan a picture using a LEXMARK Platinium Pro905 all-in-one printer with PSP X3 (v. 13.2.1.20). Lexmarx drivers are the latest available.

Please note I'm using a French version of PSP so I'll try to translate the titles, menus and messages in English.

I'm going in File > Import > From a scanner or a camera (3rd option)

A pop-up windows is opening with settings for scanning. I'm able to modify every option if I want to.

If I click on "Preview" (with a document in the scanner), I'm getting a preview of the document. Using the preview, I can select the area of the document I want to scan. So far so good.

When I click on the "Scan" button, the pop-up with the scan setting is disappearing (which is probably normal) but a pop-up error message is displayed right away :

The French says "Une erreur s'est produite lors de la lecture du fichier".
In English, it would probably translate by "An error occurred while reading the file". The only choice I have is to click "Ok".

I also tried with another scanner (HP Scanjet Q4010) with same result. Both (Lexmark + HP) are using an USB connexion.

In the past (few months ago), I was able to scan a document using this method with my HP scanner and PSP X2.

Do you have any suggestion to make it work?

Thanks in advance!

Another user recently had a similar problem. A Corel employee provided an answer which worked for that user. Maybe it could work for you as well:
Open PSPPX3 and change to Full Editor. If there is no general problem with the scanner, then it will work. If it doesn't work in Full Edit mode, then there is an incompatibility with the scanner.

Most people try to scan in Organizer mode but it doesn't work. We are already aware of this misunderstanding and have forwarded it to the development team as enhancement request.

Thanks for your answer Ken. I'm already in Full Edit mode. It seems a little bit too easy for a Corel employee to say that if it doesn't work, then there is an incompatibility with the scanner. I'm must be quite unlucky as I have 2 differents scanners and both are getting the same problem with PSP X3. Maybe I could buy a third one and cross my fingers!

Just a shot in the dark - have you tried using a different USB port to connect the scanner? Sometimes they get a bit wonky.

I'm using an HP F2423 which is an All-in-One printer scanner and copier, I can scan without any problem. Even if I use the SCANNER icon beside the open folder icon or IMPORT > FROM SCANNER or CAMERA. I would suggest that you should download the latest driver but you already done that. The only thing that I can suggest is that you reinstall the scanner software which will probably in the disc that came with the scanner.

I checked the support page of your printer, you may want to update the firmware and download the "Complete drivers and software for setting up, configuring, and using your device with Windows 64-bit" by visiting http://pnoy.me/3O

Thanks Abiel and Kathy for your answers,

Software and firmware for my Lexmark all-in-one printer are the most up-to-date available. In fact, the Lexmark work perfectly (either for printing or scanning) with every other applications (except PSP X3). As I wrote in my first message, I also have another scanner (HP Scanjet G4010). This scanner is working perfectly except with PSP X3 (exactly the same error as with the Lexmark). The HP scanner was working correctly with PSP X2 few months ago.

Regarding using other USB port to plug the scanner, I tried but result is the same. I can get a preview of what inside the scanner but as soon I click on the "Scan" button (in the PSP X3 scanner interface), I'm getting the error message : "An error occurred while reading the file".

I have an HP Photosmart C4780 (printer/scanner/copier) and I am able to scan with X3 (same version number as you). I'm also on Windows 7 64 bit.

You mentioned you could scan with X2 a couple months ago but I wasn't clear on whether X3 ever worked with your scanner.

This may sound crazy but have you tried resetting your workspace? This seems to be the Corel magic pill for a lot of weird issues and is similar to "if all else fails reboot." If you've made customizations to your workspace, you may want to save it via File -> Workspace -> Save. Then close PSP X3 and re-open it by holding the shift key while double clicking the desktop icon for X3. It will ask if you want to reset your workspace and of course you will say yes.

If that doesn't work, I'm out of ideas unless you want to go back to X2 (which I prefer by the way). I have both X2 Ultimate and X3 and I find myself using X2 more often than not. An uninstall/re-install is a pain in the butt and I won't even suggest it as there is no guarantee it will solve your problem.

Maybe someone else will have an idea.

Hi Hello

I am using PSP X3.

I have the same problem as Sebbo "In English, it would probably translate by "An error occurred while reading the file". The only choice I have is to click "Ok"."

I am using a HP Laserjet M1132 MFP

I found that if I scan via TWAIN Acquire, all is OK.

However, the moment I scan "From Scanner or Camera . . . " I can preview but have the same "An error occurred while reading the file" error popping up.

Previously, I used an Epson printer/scanner and it worked like a dream.

Please help as I'm frustrated as never before!

Thanks.
