I'm using Ulead VS 11. When I make a clip and render it as new video, the new video is repeating frames all over the place. As it renders I can see it happening. It's like the video renders minute/second 1:01, then jumps back to 1:00, then re-renders 1:01. All over the place. These repeat frames are not in the original video.
The format of the original video is MPEG2, 8000 bps, and is being converted to WMV (don't ask!). I have found that the only way to retain any semblance of quality in the new video is to change it to WMV, and for my purposes, this is adequate. I have tried about 10 of the different output formats offered in the "Create Video" option, including saving with settings the same as project settings, and the result is the same, with the exception that the WMV 720 is the only one where a decent quality is maintained. That's a whole other question -- why rendering with "same as project settings" gives me total junk.
Is there some other setting that could be causing these frame repeats? I don't believe I had these problems when the original video was WMV rendering to WMV. But MPEG2 to MPEG2 is not fixing it either, so there must be something else.
Help! I'm really a novice at this, so I don't know what other info may be relevant.
Thanks for any help.

Re: Rendered Video Repeats Frames
Welcome to the forums -- though I only wish it had been under happier circumstances!
First things first, though, we need to know the properties of your mpeg-2 video. Can you right click on one of the video clips *inside* Video Studio, please -- either in the timeline or in the library window, and copy ALL its Properties here please. Can you also tell us where the video came from, and if it was from a camcorder, the make and model. In addition, did you do any editing to it, and if so, what?

Re: Rendered Video Repeats Frames
Thank you for your quick response.
Here are the properties:
FILE:
File Format: MPEG-2
File size: 24,451,140 KB
Duration: 32399.167 seconds
VIDEO:
Video type: MPEG-2 Video, Lower Field First
Total frames: 971,975
Attributes: 24 bits, 1360 x 760
Frame rate: 30.000 frames/sec
Data rate: Variable bit rate (Max 12000 kbps)
AUDIO:
Audio type: MPEG Audio Layer 2 files
Total samples 1,555,160,000 samples
Attributes: 48000 Hz, 16 bit, Sterio
Layer: 2
Bit rate: 128 kbps
Only simple editing: marking out the clip, cropping, and then using distort clip to increase the size of the cropped area. With other videos, I do no editing at all, just mark out the clip, and the same problem manifests.
File was created using Replay Video Capture software by Applian -- it's recording streaming video on my computer. Recording settings for that are 30 fps, MPEG-2 format, 8,000 bps.
I recorded last night using WMV format instead, and have no additional frames when making a WMV video from it. Just when I try to do MPEG-2 to WMV, or MPEG-2 to MPEG-2. Very strange! I can't stand using WMV, so I'd really like to solve this problem.
Thank you.

Re: Rendered Video Repeats Frames
are you using VS 11 on a Windows 7 PC? If you are then that can also be causing the problem, since VS 11 is not compatible with Win7. You can visit http://corel.force.com/index/articles/e ... patibility to know which version of VS are compatible with Win7.
Since VS X4 is somewhat similar to VS 11, you can try downloading the trial and see if that works for you. You can visit www.corel.com/trials to get the trial.

Re: Rendered Video Repeats Frames
Yes, I am using VS 11 with Windows 7. I will look at the trial version of the other version, as you suggest. It took me so long to figure out how to use VS 11 that I'm not thrilled about figuring out a new product, but I'll give it a go. I hope Ulead offers some sort of upgrade price.
If anyone has any other ideas about the repeating frames issue, just in case it's not Windows 7 compatibility, I'm still interested to hear it.
Thank you.

Re: Rendered Video Repeats Frames
Hi BettyG
The mpeg video properties are totally non standard,................
Sample of standard settings for mpeg2
NTSC drop frame (29.97 fps)
MPEG files
24 bits, 720 x 480, 29.97 fps
Upper Field First
(DVD-NTSC), 4:3
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 8000 kbps)
I would suggest you try to adjust the capture properties of your Replay Video Capture software by Applian device
Can you confirm you use NTSC or Pal video standard

Re: Rendered Video Repeats Frames
Hi Trevor,
I'm using NTSC. The software doesn't have choices beyond 25 fps, 30 fps. The actual setting was 8000 bps, but on the file properties, it says max 12,0000 bps, so I don't know why that is. I'm not sure the properties showing up on this file are accurate. The software is not sophisticated enough to have these advanced setting options. I will look into whether there's some way to change the settings, but the options appear pretty limited. This may be the problem.
Is it possible to fix this using manual setting of project properties, or does it not matter what I do there since the problem is how it was actually captured? I'm very careful to make sure the project properties match what the file properties say. It would seem it should be able to handle it if that's defined properly.
I would use WMV, which doesn't have this problem, except that when I record using WMV, the video becomes choppy sometimes, but not always. I think it's something about the compression, although I think my computer is powerful enough to handle the load. Too often I come back and play it back only to find a whopping image refresh rate of once per second.
The problem is not Windows 7, as I loaded the software onto my XP machine and I have the same problem. I tried downloading the trial version of X4 and it wouldn't launch, messed up my version 11 installation, and customer service hung up on me. Since it's not the OS, I'm not going to bother with that route after all.
Thanks for the insights, will look into the recording software some more.

Re: Rendered Video Repeats Frames
Hi
I didn’t realise you were using a screen capture program.
I think the frame size of 1360 x 760 is probably your computers monitor screen size.
Which you captured using the Replay Video Capture software by Applian.
This is approximately widescreen 16:9
Not sure what’s happening with the bit rate, (12000) but seems like a High Definition type capture.
I can only assume you have captured to a HD video type. You may be best to capture your screen using 1280 x 720 frame size.
If you are intending to make a DVD then you will have to control the size to MPEG 2 standards.
The project properties will only match Mpeg 2 or Avi standards.
So where are you intending to use the completed video, upload to Youtube, create a DVD??????
