I experimented with slow motion of a water fall video clip from Letchworth State Park of New York where we visited recently. The original clip is 1080p24fps. I used virtualdub, avisynth, mvtools method to change the video clip from 24fps to 96fps, and 144fps. This method smoothly builds additional frames between each of the 24fps appropriately and the method works great to create smooth slow motion that plays in VLC slowing the 96 and 144 clips fluidly slow. Inserting the three clips into VS works fine and play normally. Selecting the inserted 96fps clip, and slowing it by 25% plays jerky, and renders as 1080p24fps the same way. Same situation with the 144fps clip. I played with all the parameters: frame and % and I could not make VS X4 play the clips smoothly. I am hoping I don't understand how to use this new Time lapse/Speed feature, so I am posting to see if anyone has ideas. BTW, I also own Premiere Pro, and it does the slow down of these clips perfectly. You can see the three clips in VIMEO done with Premiere Pro: http://vimeo.com/25648604
EDIT: I just tried Microsoft Movie Maker that comes free from Microsoft, and it does the slow down correctly. I am thinking this is a problem with VS X4

Sometimes the Anti-shake filter can smooth out video by interpreting frames. If you try it, set "Level" somewhere up to 20 but "Enlarge" always set to 0. Don't tick the Advanced Mode checkbox. Then copy the first keyframe to the other (last) keyframes.
This might help, but depends on the video content and how steady the camcorder was.
When you use the Speed/Time-Lapse feature, make sure "Frame Frequency" is 0. The other controls just give you different ways to do the same thing: adjust the speed.

Time lapse is different from slow motion.
Here's a video tutorial on how to use the Time-lapse feature on VS X4.

This should help you understand how time-lapse works.

Re: Slow Motion woes, How does Time lapse/speed work?
This may be a "for dummies" question, but I collected 720p images every two seconds with a result of 850 images and want to create a "smooth" time lapse. I have tried all sorts of h
s:f combinations and still get big jumps between frames.
I obviously am missing something here. Have watched the how to video and still not getting where I want to be.
This is a trial version of X4, as I am evaluating software packages to determine which I want to purchase.
Any wisdom on this would be appreciated.
