BORDERS ON A ELLIPSE PHOTO

Post by RCBOB »

I have PSPX2 and when I select (shape selection tool) the ELLLIPSE to use on the photo, what must I do to get a border around the ellipse. I also would like to choose a border color and thickness for the border. Any help here will be appreciated. Bob

Use vectors.

A vector will allow you to define color and stroke width. All you need to do is turn off the background color on the materials palette (fill color for vectors) so that it's only using the border.

See this topic on doing the same thing using a rounded corner border. It's exactly the same thing just using a different vector shape.

What LeviFiction posted works the same with raster shapes so you don't have to use vectors.
Using Paint Shop Pro versions 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 12, 14, 16

Draw the Ellipse, use the right mouse button to drag it into position.

Then Selections>Modify>Select Selection Borders.
Make sure you have Preview on Image ticked.
I usually use Inside or Both.
Make it the width you need.
Then:
Selections>Promote Selection to Layer. Fill it with your chosen colour.
I do it this way so I can just delete the promoted layer if I don't like the result, rather than Undo, it's less clicks.
But you don't have to :-)

Joelle I would like to send you 2 jpeg on what I did. How do I do that here? Or can I send that to your e-mail?

You could just put them up on the forum in your next post by using the 'Upload attachment' tab under the box where you type your reply.

OR

Click on the 'PM' under Joelles name at the RIGHT of his messages - this will open a Private Message function between you where you can ask Joelle for his e-mail address - it is not wise to post full e-mail addresses in the open forum.

It's better to upload here :-)
I am having major (desktop) computer problems at the moment and no connection on the desktop.

(This message comes from an ancient laptop).

This is what I'm trying to do by putting a BORDER around the ellipse photo and then have it like a picture frame.

Joelle I'll send you the photo on how I did from your steps you mention.

This is how I ended up with this one and not knowing how to cut the background out and keep the border.

You can try using the flood fill tool on the area outside the frame on your new layer to give it the new border.

Can you view videos on your ancient laptop? I'm assuming you can so I made a quick tutorial on three options you have to making a border with the white areas because I'm not good at explaining things.
