Hi everyone,
My latest problem is file formats! I have two cameras, one of which produces .AVI video format. I have found that Corel does not "read" this format - or am I wrong?
I am working from a card reader. I have succeeded in using the latter files in VS but only by converting to MP3. I don't want to part with this very handy camera so am I missing something in that perhaps I can change some setting to enable Corel to recognise .AVI files? I don't want to have to use the editing suite which came with my Traveller camera. I have found it is easy to load via Picasa - which accepts many formats - but it's when I come to insert media file to the VS library that the trouble starts - obviously because the files are .AVI. Any advice appreciated. Thanks. Viddynick.

Re: Video Studio - file formats
Hi viddynick... you've been round long enough to know that the first thing we are going to ask when someone says they have 'avi' is "what kind of avi?" There are over 800 different video types which use .avi as their extension. It is only a wrapper or distribution extension, apart from true, uncompressed .avi (huge at around 65 GB an hour)... So what kind of .avi is it that your camera shoots in? Right click on one of the file in VS if you can, and copy all its properties here please. Or see if you can find the exact properties in the Traveller manual...
MP3, by the way, is an audio format... or did you mean MP4? (I have a Traveller video camera which I bought from Aldi's several years ago, and it films in mp4... but calls itself mp4 as well!)

Hi Ken
Thanks for prompt response. I have moved on somewhat in the past half hour! - and converted the .AVI file to mpeg format. Sorry about the MP3 - you're right about that being music files(!) - think the sun's got to me tonight! I have now imported the converted files into VS without problem - think this is the route I will take in future as it has taken little time to do it. Yes, I bought the traveller in Aldis also - only recently. This side of things is not my bag - and my wife sorts the technical side for me! - am afraid I like to use the pc parrot fashion but she is always telling me that's not always possible! Despite my ignorance on this side of things, I can turn out quite good films as grew up with Cine film learned from my father who did it from when cine was invented - more or less! Thanks for your time tonight - appreciated. Cheers, Viddynick.
