Have not used any of the plug-ins before and was not aware of that. Do you have any recommendations or thoughts re the plug-ins available.

Apart from the free plug-in, I actually bought the four New Blue Video Essentials packs (at a special price) and also have the New Blue Explosions plug-in. They are all, of course, filters, but New Blue has produced a professional set to do all sorts of fairly itneresting things, and do them well, although there is a fairly steep learning curve in using them correctly. The picture-in-picture one which is actually included in Video Studio X3/X4 is highly useful, for instance, and plugs a longstanding hole for previous users of MSP 7... The problem, of course, is that the cost of these filters is sometimes higher than the cost of VS itself!
VS will do a good job and has a significant number of its own filters, most of which can be widely adapted within themselves. But it really depends on which exact effect you are after...
