PI 12 '3D' photo effect

Post by betwixt1 »

I posted a message about this a few days ago but it seems to have gone AWOL!

I'm trying to create an effect using PI 12 but for the life of me can't see how to do it. What I'm trying to do is give a photograph a bowed appearance with shadow so it appears to lie unevenly on the background with a '3D' appearance. Imagine a photograph that has curled up slightly so there is a gap underneath it either in the middle or on both sides, depending on whether it curled in or out. PI is very strong on picture content effects but seems weak on distorting whole image outlines. Can anyone help with suggestions on how to do this or a pointer to a tutorial. The effect isn't the rolled corner of a page curl, I can mange that easily enough, it's a similar effect but applies over the whole image. The amount of curl only has to be slight and the 'reverse' side doesn't have to be visible.

Have you tried making a selection shape exactly how you want the image to look. Copy the image and paste into the selection.

There is a tutorial that could help you with this called Photo Bend. http://wwell.net/tutorials/pi12/photobend/

In fact, if you go to the PIRC forum, there are lots of PhotoImpact tutorials and help available. To join the group you have to sign up, to access the tutorials, you don't. http://pirc-forum.com/index.php

Maureen - you are a genius!

I've been using the Ulead range of products for more years than I can remember, I think I started with MediaStudio 2 and whichever PI was current at the time - it must be 15 or more years ago by now. I use PI daily for preparing images for publication in leaflets and on the web but for some reason this particular task eluded me. I'm hesitant to say it but it's probably my brain addling with old age! The link you gave is exactly what I was looking for and I confess I checked all the tutorials but missed that one.

Many many thanks again,

Brian.
