Missing Video Save Options in Pro X4

Post by brianosmi »

Hello community,
I have recently upgraded from VideoStudio 12 to Pro X4, and have noticed that I don't have all of the Video Save Options (specifically Media type and Audio format) that I have with 12.

I produce video for playback by a regional local access provider, and their requirements are mpeg-2 video with mpeg layer 2 audio. Both of these are options that are available in 12 but not X4. I understand that NTSC DVD video is mpeg-2, but I'm still at a loss with the audio format.

Here is a screenshot of the video/audio format I need to be able to produce:

I feel like I must be missing this somewhere in the settings. I've searched these forums and could find no mention of it.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Much appreciated,
Brian Allen

Unfortunately, Corel in their wisdom severely reduced the options for mpeg-2 output with X3, and continued it with X4. Now, essentially all you can produce is DVD-compatible mpeg-2 with either LPCM or Dolby audio. In other words, the ability to produce more general mpeg-2 output, plus VCD and SVCD have been dropped.

You may or may not be aware that mpeg layer 2 audio was never part of the NTSC DVD standard anyway, which makes it slightly strange that your local access provider should require that audio format. But in any case, Corel also dropped it for PAL, where it is a part of the DVD standard.

AFAIK, the only format which X3/X4 can produce with mpeg layer 2 audio is HDV (i.e. high definition mpeg-2) where mpeg layer 2 audio is in fact the international audio standard.

So your alternatives would appear to be to continue using X2 (or edit in X4 but save in X2 project format, then output in X2); or else ask the access provider if they will accept LPCM or Dolby...

Ken, thank you for the reply and for confirming that the functionality has been removed.

I ended up going with your second work around when I discovered this problem a couple of weeks ago... It's nice that you can have both X2 and X4 installed at the same time.

Hi Ken / Brian

Using X4 when I view Share Create Video File-DVD there is an option for MPEG2
Do you see this option?
The properties show using MPEG audio layer 2

MPEG files
24 bits, 720 x 576, 25 fps
Upper Field First
(MPEG-2), 4:3
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 6000 kbps)
Audio data rate: 224 kbps
MPEG audio layer 2, 48 KHz, Stereo

I assume NTSC version also exists, I cannot customise this template.

After rendering a video, when I try to Add to Make Movie Templates Manager I get an error, file not compatible….
I assume because of "audio layer 2"

Trevor -- thanks, yes. But I had discounted it because in effect of what you said: it is not customisable. What you see is all you get -- and you can't edit it or Add it to the templates.
