I never upgraded from vs x2 to x3... purchased it last year but never made the change. just took a break from this software. I see that vs x4 is now available. Can someone recommend whether the differences are significant enough to purchase x4 and skip over x3 or whether I should just use x3 before upgrading since I already have it.... it just looks like there might not be too much difference or improvement from one version to the next. ( i've experienced dissappointment w incremental insignificant improvements in the past)
also --- anyone know if they've fixed the bug in vsx2 that only alllowed for a limited number of transition categories. I seem to recall that I had some issues adding newblue fx because i already had a bunch of add-ons like hollywood fx, adorage, burgers, canopus video fx... the only real reason for upgrading at this point would be to add the newbluefx that I recently purchased.
thanks
Ilene

Re: upgrading from x3 to x4
If you like the integrated burning module of VS X2, then you will surely like VS X4. But for the rest of other features, I would recommend that you download and install the trial version in order for you to see for yourself.
You can download the trial via www.corel.com/trials.

Re: upgrading from x3 to x4
Although you already have X3, even if not installed, you need to be very aware that there was a huge mess over it when Corel first totally replaced the 'old' burning module with a hopelessly silly, simplistic and slow one. After general user outcry, they then made an SE version of Movie Factory 7 available to registered users of X3, which rectified things somewhat, but it could not read X3 project files -- so you had to first produce a video file of your projects in X3 and use those in MF 7SE. In X4, they completely restored the old burning module to the relief of all of us!

Re: upgrading from x3 to x4
thanks ken -- i remember reading that about the issue w the burn module. I never go right to dvd anyone and always make a movie file before making the dvd.... but still don't need the headache of dvd authoring being any issue. The older versions always stay in tact, so you can always go back and make the dvd with an older version.
in any event, I think I should just buy x4 -- skip the install of x3 and go right to x4? thoughts? any issues with bumping over one version?
thanks for posting the comparison chart ---- that was actually quite useful. the enhanced timeline feature of being able to put a transition at the beginning or end of a clip on the overlay track is huge! that reason alone is a reason to upgrade to x4....
