How to capture and create a video from a video
I know this has to be easy but I'm having a hard time.
I created a long video of me playing a number of cover songs and I want to grab those songs individually so I can post them on YouTube.
I'm using Ulead Video Studio 11 Plus.
A tutorial would be cool if there's one about doing that and I apologize if I am not using the correct terminology to describe my request.
Thanks in advance for your time.

Re: How to capture and create a video from a video
Is the video in a file on your computer, or is it on a DVD/CD or stored on something else?

Yes, I actually have 3 of them of varying lengths and they are all VSP files.
Thanks
Thanks

Waiting for moderation is a buzzkill.
I have figured out how to mark the clip to delete but how do I use that marked area/clip instead of it being deleted? I selected copy and then new project and then pasted it in and saved it but that seems klugey. I am also not sure which option to use when I save it - again, I want to upload to YouTube.
Thanks,

Sorry, but we are just users of the various products, like you. We volunteer our time to help others, and actually most have full time jobs, and families. So it may take longer than 30 mins to get a response.Waiting for moderation is a buzzkill.
We do have a tutorial forum on the web board. Steve put together an in-depth tutorial called From Camcorder to DVD with VideoStudio. You might have a read through it, and some of the others in that section.

Re: How to capture and create a video from a video
Thanks Ron. I too volunteer my time on boards and also have a family, yada yada. I am not used to having my posts moderated and I can live with it and only hope that the moderation is temporary as I have no intention of spamming, trolling or abusing this forum in any way. So is this temporary until I become "known"? ANd if so, how long or how many posts are required before it is lifted?
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Well it appears I can now post replies and they are immediate! Thanks!

Yes it is temporary. There's a 3 post limit set, and you've fulfilled them...

Re: How to capture and create a video from a video
Just so my b*tching doesn't deflect from my original purpose/post I wan to reiterate my situation.
I figured out how to clip the part out of a captured VSP video file by trimming and using the scissors then I right click and select copy. Then I open a new project and paste it (I had to recreate my title because that didn't 'follow' the paste). So now I have the new project/clip/video and I want to save it so I can upload to YouTube. What settings are needed for YouTube? I thought I saw something somewhere about it but can't seem to find it again.
In a nutshell here are my neds:
Thanks much for your time!

In a nutshell here are my neds:
- So is that the way I should grab bits out of a large file or is there a better way?
- What format/settings should I use to upload it to YouTube?
Thanks much for your time!

Re: How to capture and create a video from a video
First, a VSP file is a project file, and not a video file. The project file is merely a small text file telling the program what videos are included, where they are located, and what editing has been done to them.
So you start with you big VSP in the timeline. You want to save your first number as a separate file/project... So simply move to the end of that song and use the scissors icon to make a cut at that point. Then simply click on the other part and delete it. Now save that song with a separate project file name you will remember (e.g. Song001): File > Save As.
Then do whatever you want to do with that song, and even perhaps render it into an actual video. Then close that project.
Reopen the original VSP and move to the end of the first song, cut it again, but this time delete the first song. Then move to the end of the second song, make a cut, and delete the rest. Proceed as per the above until you have separate projects and/or video clips for each song. This method will also guarantee that any titles you added will remain. Note also that making all these cuts and new projects does not affect the original VSP or video contained in it. It always remains uncut.
I can't offer any suggestions re YouTube format for the simple reason I have never posted to it... Hopefully someone else will be able to help you there.

Re: How to capture and create a video from a video
First a VSP file is not a video file, it is the Project file, (VideoStudio Project). It contains instructions for VS, like the location of your video files, photos, music, any editing and son on. If you're using a VSP file, inside your project, you're nesting files. This can be handy at times.
What you can do, is simply drag the section of the clip(s) you want to preserve to the Library. The libraries are not project dependent. Then when you open or start a new project, just drag those back down to the timeline. Also when working in VS, you're working with virtual clips, not the originals. What you see in the timeline are thumbnail links to your original source clips.
VS also has a function/feature called Multi-trim. This is where you can go through your video clips, and trim out all the bad parts, and keep the good, which will be shown in the timeline when you exit Multi-trim. You should see the Multi-Trim Video icon on the Video Panel.
YouTube formats are not so restrictive nowadays. I just uploaded one today, I rendered it to NTSC DVD (MPEG-2), and uploaded it. They accept Hi-def formats as well. So whatever your source clips' properties are should be good enough for YouTube. Oh and don't bother using the Upload to YouTube function in VS. I've never liked it, and even in the current version, VS X4, it restricts the file size, to less than what YouTube accepts now. Once you're video is ready to be uploaded, do it from YouTube.
Beat me to it Ken...

Re: How to capture and create a video from a video
Ken and Ron. Thanks a bundle and for the quick response and excellent information. I created a video back in version 8 and have just kind of forgotten how to do things.
So I guess I had kind of figured it out but your explanations really helped me understand how it all comes together as I was afraid when I deleted something that it was a 'hard' delete. I just got done videoing an hour and a half of my drumming and will try out the multi-trim function. It's a cool program and hope to have fun putting some videos together.
I think what I had seen regarding YouTube was probably referring to an older version or like you said Ron, YouTube is more forgiving these days.
Thanks again for all your help!

When you get your video uploaded to YouTube, if you'd like you can share it with us. Just go to the Members Samples forum and post it there. Just copy the URL in Youtube, then when replying or posing here, there is a youtube button. Press it, and paste the URL between the tags. I think some of us would like to hear you playing.

I appreciate the info about leaving samples but I really am not a player you want to get your hopes too high for...
It was raining today and then got busy making potato salad and rub for the ribs tomorrow so not sure when I will get one up there but I will let you know.
