VideoStudio Pro X3 and GoPro HD Files

Post by Blairc »

VideoStudio Pro X3 has been crashing on me when trying to edit MP4 1080p files larger than 4 GB from my GoPro camera. I keep getting an "Unspecified Error" message. It's possible that my laptop just doesn't have the capacity to handling editing of those files, but is anyone aware of a glitch in VideoStudio that could be causing the problem? Thanks.

If the processor of your laptop is Intel Core i5 M 430 2.27 Ghz, then it's more than enough to handle MP4 1080p files larger than 4 GB. Can you tell me if the error happens during the editing process or burning process?

For the meantime, I suggest that you download all updates for your VS X3 by going to http://www.corel.com/servlet/Satellite/ ... 0460544373.

Thanks for the quick reply.

It happens during editing. A dump file is generated, but I was wondering if anyone else had a similar experience before I try forwarding the dump file to Corel Tech Support.

I have downloaded and installed all available updates for VS X3.

Hi

It may be a Quick Time issue, try installing an earlier version

I have had similar problems with my GoPro files and some that X3 would not accept at all ( had to convert to mpeg-2 first ). I also have had a similar issue with files from my Canon HV30 during timeline playback. What I do is only play a short portion of the edited region which seems to work ok, my crashes alwasy occur after the playback has been going for a minute or two. Once all editing is complete I create the final output ( disk or file ) which has always worked ok.

Thanks for the suggestions Trevor. I tried going to the older version of Quick Time but that didn't help. I will give your other suggestion about the reinstall with and without the service pack a try as well.

I can work with the file if I convert it to another format first. That's just annoying to have to do. My crashes occur shortly after I try to playback the clip or if I try to make an edit to the clip. The playback isn't smooth either and has snow in it. I don't have issues working with the 720p or 920 p files from my GoPro, but I can't work with 1080p files.

Hi

The installation of X3 without the patch was to cure a specific problem with Mov playback, not X3 crashes. Although it won’t harm try a re-install.

There have been other users having problems with GoPro video, have you searched the forum???

Unfortunately I do not think they found a solution other than to convert the video.
